Polka Dot Blouse 6 Ways

I bought this polka dot blouse from the Gap at the end of Summer and I can’t believe how much use I’ve gotten out of it. It’s such a versatile top making it perfect for layering for Fall. My favourite way to style it is under a sweater, but you can wear it with a cardigan and skirt, under a dress, or with a blazer. The possibilities are endless!!!!!!!

1 Dress: Spring To Winter

I bought this dress last Spring and I’m always looking at how to carry clothes from one season into the next. So the next time you look at your shift dress and are sad that it’s too cold to wear, think again. Add a pair of tights, turtleneck sweater and boots and you’re set to go. Check out how I styled my polka dot shift dress to go from Spring to Winter.

Happy Black Friday and Weekend Everyone!!!!! We are taking my son to see Disney on Ice on Saturday. He doesn’t know yet and I can’t wait until he see’s the princesses on the ice. Someone is going to lose his mind :)!!!!

Green, Gingham & Pearls

One of my favourite outfits is wearing a button top under a sweater. I like that it keeps me warm and it’s fashionable at the same time. So the next time you’re planning your casual outfit, try grabbing a button shirt layer a fabulous sweater over it, add a necklace, jeans, boots and/or flats and you’re ready to go.

Polka Dots and Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

This is a shift dress that I wore to a girl’s night on Friday. I went straight from work to the party and my co-workers thought I was all dressed up for them. Although I do dress nicely for work, I told them I was going out afterwards. I need to wear this dress more often. I’m hoping to make it transition into Fall and Winter by adding tights, boots, and layering a turtleneck or a boyfriend shirt underneath.

transitioning to fall with chambray

This next outfit was inspired by Shannon from Style With Shannon. She appeared on Studio 5 where she discussed how to pull off a casual skirt at any age. My eye caught the outfit with the Chambray shirt used as a cover up and also the one with the maxi skirt. I decided to combine the 2 and make my own version.

I’ve kind of had a love hate relationship with this Chambray top. It needs more structure and I was seriously considering donating it, but after seeing how this outfit turned out, I’ll give it another chance. I love how comfortable this outfit is yet is fashionable.

May this blog inspire you to add a Chambray top to your outfit to help you transition it to Fall.

I am so excited to be collaborating with Ada from Elegance & Mommyhood for our Mom’s Must Have Summer Items Series. For the next 5 Fridays we will each feature 5 items we think is essential for every mom to have in her wardrobe this Summer.

I recently purchased a peplum top. Truth be told I was holding out on buying anything peplum as I thought it would be short lived trend. Well I was wrong. It’s been here 2 seasons now and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere soon. I decided to ease my way into peplum by purchasing this black and white peplum top from Jacob. We all know how much I love stripes.

7 x 7 Challenge Link Up

7X7-Challenge

Today I am linking up with Natalia from Ma Nouvelle Mode for her 7 x 7 link up. The idea is to take 7 pieces of clothing and remix them to make 7 different outfits. Shoes count in the 7 items, but accessories don’t. So you can accessorize your little heart out!!!! :)

These are the 7 items I picked: Maxi skirt, Printed Crop Pant, Yellow Tank Top, Simple white Tee, Shorts, Oxford Boyfriend Shirt and Sandals. When deciding what to pick, I tried to choose neutral pieces, versatile ones and trendy pieces for Spring/Summer. All 7 pieces are great for the on-the-go mom, easy to style, and definitely can wear with other items in my closet. I decided to add some spice to these 7 outfits by adding a fedora, a colourful scarf, fabulous jewelry (statement necklaces and arm candy) and by styling each outfit with amazing purses.

Pearls, Boyfriend Jeans, Dots & Dashes & Giveaway

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I worked on Saturday but then on Sunday, the boys and I headed to see Thomas in Squamish. Will post pictures tomorrow.

My husband told me that I should put a disclaimer under my outfit posts stating “if weather permits”. I had high hopes of wearing my black and white striped shorts on Friday but the weather had very different ideas. It rained all morning. Hence the reason for indoor pictures. So instead I went for the old stand-by: boyfriend jeans and my Tippi Sweater. I decided to bring a little juxtaposition to my outfit by adding a feminine pearl necklace to my masculine boyfriend jeans.

Dots & Dashes

I am really excited to introduce a fabulous company called Dots & Dashes. This local business was started by Claire Lawrence, a fellow Nurse, and mother to 4 boys. The idea behind Dots & Dashes is to protect pedestrians and cyclists from getting hit; to make them visible. On average in British Columbia, 3,800 pedestrians and cyclists are hit and injured each year. 70 people will die from their injuries. (ICBC, Quick Statistics, April 2012). I know that this past Winter it seemed like every day the news was reporting another pedestrian getting hit. I have to say though that the owness is on both the driver and the pedestrian. This past Winter, my husband was driving in the pouring and we almost hit a pedestrian because they stepped off the curb without looking to see if there were any cars coming. Thankfully we spotted them in time, but they didn’t have any reflective gear on them.

Claire kindly sent over a starter package. It comes with instructions and reflectors of all sizes.

Dots & Dashes

She asked me to get creative as to where to put them. For starters, I decided to put them on my son’s rain coat, my make up bag and our umbrella. The reason for my make up bag, is that we are going camping this Summer and I want to be able to find it quickly as it seconds as an emergency medical bag.

My son’s raincoat

My umbrella

IMG_3598

My make up bag

IMG_3597

Applying the reflectors was as easy as peeling the stickers off the back and sticking it on the objects I wanted to reflect. My son usually doesn’t go out at night wearing his rain coat, but I wanted to see how well it worked and stuck to his coat. It worked perfectly and we shined a light on the reflector and it worked like a charm.

Dots & Dashes have kits that start from $5.00 and go all the way up to $250 (this has 24 kits in it and is used for fundraisers). So if you have children or even walk a lot in the cold dark rain, or cycle, this is perfect for you. If you’re a teacher at a school, this would make a great fundraiser for your school or classroom.

You can contact Claire at 604-551-7799, or on Facebook at Dots and Dashes.

Claire has been kind enough to giveaway 5 Dots and Dashes starter kits to Vodka Infused Lemonade readers. Unfortunately this is only open to Canadian Residents. Please follow the Rafflecopter instructions below. Good luck.

Today’s post will include a little of this and a little of that. So let’s start with what I am wearing today: boyfriend jeans, Tippi sweater, bow flats and a blazer. The weather really can’t make up it’s mind. I’m hoping for a nicer, sunnier June.

Today I’m linking up with Real Girl Glam for her Real Girl Style Challenge: The White Tee. I decided to pick 3 different ways I like to style a white tee. My favorite ways of styling a simple white tee is to add a statement necklace, cardigan or a vest. By adding any one of these you transform a simple white tee into something fabulous. Check out my favorite ways below…

The Power of Social Media

Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown

I recently fell in love with a new show on CNN called Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown. I was not familiar with Anthony, but the commercial caught my eye. The idea of the show is that he travels all around the world, experiencing different food and cultures. It’s not your typical travel show. There are no false pretenses, no sugar coating the lives people live. It’s an honest, candid view of what life is like in certain parts of the world. So far Anthony has travelled to Koreatown in LA, Quebec, Libya, Morocco, Columbia and Myanmar.

What really made an impact for me was when I watched the episode where Anthony was in Libya. I remember the revolution that happened 2 years ago. I watched the news which showed how people fought for their freedom. Anthony asked a man about the revolution and how it came to be and the man answered “it came to be through social media like Facebook and Twitter”. To oversimplify it people communicated and organized the revolution through Facebook and Twitter. It’s absolutely amazing to think how 2 forms of social media that barely existed a decade ago, helped give people their freedom. It’s mind blowing. If you get a chance you can watch Parts Unknown on CNN Sunday nights at 9pm. It’s definitely worth watching.

Terry Fallis' The High Road

I recently finished Terry Fallis’ second novel called The High Road, which is the sequel to The Best Laid Plans. We read his first book in book club about a year ago and it pleasantly surprised me. I don’t care much for politics, especially Canadian as it’s as boring as watching paint dry, but Terry Fallis manages to captivate the reader through his main character Angus McLintock. Angus is a Scottish Engineer who accidentally gets involved in Canadian politics. I won’t go into any more detail as I don’t want to ruin the story. What I will say is from the first page, the humour engages you and compels you to keep reading.

The sequel is very much like the first one. From the first page I was laughing out loud. I only wish Canadian politics was this interesting. But on a more serious note, we recently held a Provincial Election here in BC and many people were disappointed with the outcome. For me personally, I didn’t want to vote (but I did!!!), as I felt like none of the candidates represented me, my family or my concerns. I felt like the campaigns were full of empty promises and grandiose propaganda. Once elected those officials, do whatever they want anyways. There is really no accountability. They say they are working for the people but they aren’t. They could take heed from Angus McLintock in Terry Fallis’ novels. Now this is a man who is true to his word, who doesn’t play the games, and doesn’t put up with bullshit. He says it like it is and in the end it benefits him. For once I would like to go to the polls feeling like one of the candidates represents me and my interests, instead of voting for the lesser of the evils. So if any Canadian politician reads this (highly doubtful, but one can hope), then please stop dicking around and start listening to us, the people. Stop playing games and start working for us the people. That’s what we are paying you for!!!!!

So back to the book, if you want a funny, quick, entertaining read then The High Road is perfect for you. It’s not just a book for Canadians, anyone can relate to the shenanigans of politicians. Start with the first, The Best Laid Plans and then read this one. You won’t be disappointed.

This is a picture of a flower bush in our backyard. It started to bloom this week. It’s so pretty. I love Spring.
