Polka Dots, Princess Castle Cake & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Last weekend ended the almost week and a half long birthday celebration for my son. We had his birthday party with his friends on Saturday and boy did he have fun. It was so much fun to watch him interact with his little friends. He was such a good host. He greeted everyone as they came and then he hugged everyone as they left. I think everyone had a good time. I was exhausted after it was all said and done, but it was worth it. The look on his face when he walked into the room and saw it decorated it and then when he saw his cake, made all the hard work worth it. Below are pictures of what I wore, his princess castle cake and some family pictures. These pictures were all taken with my new camera :)

In my relief that I was able to carry the cake safely to my son, I accidentally blew out the candle. I breathed a sigh of relief and it went out. Kind of funny and at least my son wasn’t upset. We relight the candle and all was good.

Burgundy Cardigan, Heart Blouse & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

This is what I wore on Tuesday to run errands and to Book Club: a heart blouse, burgundy cardigan and skinny jeans. I’ve had this blouse in my closet for a while now and I was a bit stumped on different ways to wear it. I thought that the cardigan would look great with the blue and beige from the blouse. I like the way it turned out. What do you guys think?

A Christmas Concert & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Last Monday was my son’s Preschool Christmas concert. As you can imagine we were all very excited to see Aiden sing. Their class did amazing. Most of them sang their little hearts out. At one point you could hear Aiden belting the song out at the top of his lungs. Honestly watching your child up on stage sing is such a beautiful sight. I’ve included some pictures and I also included some outfit pictures. I wore a tweed sparkly peplum jacket with black lace inspired pants.

All gussied up and ready to go :)

Leather Leggings, Baby Shower Cake & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

I just wanted to remind you all that since American Thanksgiving falls on Thursday Nov 28, I will be hosting next week’s Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up on the day before, Wednesday Nov 27.

This week has been exceptionally cold and I thought that I need to get more use out of my leather leggings. Click here to see the post where I styled it 6 different ways. I have to say that these leggings are extremely comfortable and I thought that I might feel weird wearing them running errands, but I didn’t. I kept it casual by pairing my leggings with a white t-shirt, cardigan, statement necklace, flats and scarf. Leather leggings are a great alternative to your normal cotton ones. So moms the next time your headed out, think about adding some leather leggings to your wardrobe :).

My 5 Favorite Summer Things & Giveaway

Favorite Summer Things

While I’m sleeping off my night shift, here are my favorite Summer things that I’m currently loving.

1. Maxi dresses and skirts. I’m absolutely in love with the maxi this Summer. I have a couple of maxi dresses and one skirt and I love them. They are perfect to wear for the Summer. Comfortable, versatile and fashionable.

IMG_3725

2. The song “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. I can’t seem to get that song out of my head. I love it. It’s racy, cheeky, a perfect Summer song. This is the first time I’ve seen the video, interesting.

3. The book “Valley of the Dolls” by Jacqueline Susann. I’m just finishing reading it for my book club and I’m loving it. Perfect Summer read.

valley-of-the-dolls1

4. I originally just had Scandal (I recently finished both seasons of the tv show Scandal and I’m hooked. I can’t wait for the new season to start. I love Kerry Washington/Olivia Pope’s wardrobe :)!!!!) as my must see show for the Summer, but I would be lying if I didn’t include The Following (I have to turn the house alarm on and lock all doors before I watch it), Game of Thrones (absolutely love it), and Rookie Blue (I’m a sucker for a man in a uniform and it’s Canadian!!!).

5. Last buy not least a Cosmo. You can’t go the Summer without enjoying a Cosmo or two or three.

Miscellaneous Monday & Happy Birthday Canada

canadian-flag-heart

Happy Canada Day Everyone!!!! I hope you are all enjoying Summer’s first long weekend. I know we are. We are up in the Okanagan soaking up some much needed sun.

I thought I would make this post a miscellaneous one showcasing what we’ve been up to lately. Below is a picture of my son at his first day of preschool and last day.

Screen Shot 2013-06-27 at 11.58.43 AM

Below is the teacher’s gift we gave to both of us his teachers. I got the idea off of Pinterest. I bought Starbuck reusable cups, added some paper grass and put a gift card in the top. I then put a thank you note from Aiden. His writing is better then some doctors I know :)!!!

These are the cupcakes I made for the East Side school I make monthly birthday cupcakes for. This time around, I went with a Summer theme, complete with sand and a bear.

We recently turned our son’s room into a big boy room, complete with a big boy bunk bed and bought some fabulous Star Wars wall stickers from an online store called Room Mates. I discovered this site through another fellow blogger. This store is amazing. They have every themed wall sticker you can imagine. Since my son’s favorite is R2D2 (he hasn’t seen the movie, just from playing Lego Star Wars with my husband), I bought him a life size R2 and some other Star Wars themed stickers to go with it. This company does ship to Canada and you don’t pay any duty. It arrived within 2 weeks. The prices are more than reasonable and they are great quality. Here are the stickers we got.

Thanks to these stickers and his amazing big boy bed, Aiden absolutely loves going to sleep in his big boy room. He has told us many times how much he loves his room and how cool it is. He can’t stop thanking us for it. Thank you Room Mates for these fabulous stickers for making this mom and family very, very happy.

So moms if you want a fairly cheap way to decorate your child’s room without leaving marks on the walls, this is a great way of doing it.

Last but not least, I wanted to wish Canada a Happy 146th Birthday. Happy Birthday Canada!!!! May everyone enjoy this beautiful day with their families.

Happy Monday Everyone!!!!

Hair, A Rainy Field Trip (Burnaby Village Museum) and Sunflower Cupcakes

This is what I am wearing today: my skinny jeans, nude bow ballet flats, black cardigan, a white t-shirt accessorized with a red scarf and a fabulous tote. Since I pretty much looked like a wet rat after my son’s preschool field trip, I decided to show you my outfit via Polyvore.

J Brand Jeans

Let’s just say that yesterday was gong show. It pretty much pissed rain the entire field trip. The teachers got the time wrong and we were an hour early. Imagine trying to entertain 20 4-5 year olds!!! Thankfully we were able to start a bit earlier. My son was a super star and so were the rest of the kids. I am so impressed at how patient they were. I have to thank 3 of the moms that I know that were my sanity’s saving grace. We all went around together which made it way more fun and tolerable. Next time I’m bringing Bailey’s in a thermos!!!! :) I just don’t understand how people can be so disorganized (my son’s preschool teachers and the people running the Burnaby Village Museum). Thank God for the other moms who really made this wet field trip fun. Below are pictures of our wet escapade.

Burnaby Village Museum

If you haven’t been to Burnaby Village Museum you should definitely check it out and take your kids when it’s not pissing rain. Although the rain sucked and it was disorganized, we did have a lot of fun. Plus you can get some ice cream as a treat at the end of it all. That’s what we did. A coffee for the moms and ice cream for the kids. Everyone left happy. Thanks again Lyn, Bonnie and Audrey for making this field trip bearable and fun.

Many of you have asked me how I style my hair. The long and short of it is that I don’t have to do anything but wash and wear. Now here’s the back story: before I had my son, I had an ugly wave in my hair, so I flat ironed it. After having my son, I accidentally discovered that my hair had become curly. I’ve heard of it happening to other people and that’s exactly what happened to me. I’ve always wanted curly hair, so I’m quite happy. All I do is wash my hair, dry it a bit in a towel and then using my hands crimp up my hair, let it dry a bit and then put some hairspray in it and let it dry. That’s it. Somedays it looks better than others, but that’s basically it. It sure makes styling my hair in the mornings easy.

Curly Hair

Last but not least, after putting my son down for a nap and putting this post together, I decorated birthday cupcakes for an inner city school I volunteer at. Almost 2 years ago, I started making monthly cupcakes for the kids birthdays. These kids come from very poor homes where they sometimes don’t even have warm clothes for Winter. Every kid deserves to have their birthday celebrated and this is my way of giving back. So each month, I make different themed cupcakes. For both May and June, I decided to make sunflower cupcakes. Here they are:

Sunflower Cupcakes

Don’t forget to link up tomorrow for my weekly Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link up.

May this blog inspire you to explore Burnaby Village Museum (preferably when it’s not pouring rain outside) and to give back to your community.

I would love it if you followed me on Facebook, Bloglovin or Pinterest.

Happy Hump Day Everyone!!!!

Easter Fun

How was your Easter weekend? The Easter bunny spoiled us all with chocolates and I got a tripod!!! I’m hoping now I will be able to take better pictures. I hope you all had as much sunshine, chocolate and fun as I did!!! :)

It’s 8 am and my son is still sleeping!!!!! Let’s just say that the Easter Bunny and 4 Easter Egg Hunts tired this little monkey right out. He didn’t get to bed until 9:30 last night. He was so tired that in the car ride back from our godson’s, he asked if it was ok if he had a little nap. Oh my son, he sure knows how to giver’!!!

We had a fabulous Easter weekend. The weather was perfect!!!! On Good Friday we had brunch at a friend’s place, before heading to Aiden’s second Easter egg hunt. The hunt was insane. There were 3 times the kids than the previous year and they all waited patiently while the politician’s gave their speeches. Next year, please skip the speeches (as no one cares) and go directly to the Easter Egg Hunt!!!! Below are pictures of the fun.

After the hunt we came home and decorated Easter eggs. I took the lazy way out and used Easter stickers. The boys, on the other hand, surprised me with some fabulous creations. Take a look:

Here are some pictures of the Easter cupcakes I made. I had a little helper. All I can say is Aiden never stole a single chocolate egg. He asked for permission before he took one, but then he had 8. Not the best idea, but Easter only happens once a year!!! :)

After Aiden’s nap on Friday, we feasted on ham, potato salad and deviled eggs.

I worked on Saturday and then on Sunday we had our third Easter Egg Hunt, had a little down time (see the last 2 pictures below) and then headed to our godson’s for Aiden’s last hunt and Easter dinner. By the time we left, he couldn’t keep his eyes open. Below are pictures of the Easter Egg Hunt at home.

I was hoping to get a nice family picture of the 3 of us all dressed up, but alas it wasn’t mean’t to be. Today we are taking it easy with a trip to the park to enjoy the last nice day, before cold and rainy weather set in.

May this blog inspire you to head out and enjoy the sunshine.

Momiform and Highschool

Happy Monday Everyone!!! The weekend was crazy. It started off with Friday finishing off a Curious George cake for my friend’s daughter’s 5th birthday, working on this post and running some errands. I worked all weekend (which was a mad house and I got recognized from my blog!!!), and my boys were busy bees. My son had 2 birthday parties on Saturday, so my poor husband had to cart him literally from one to another. Not sure who was more tired by the end of the day!!! :) Here is the cake I made for my friend’s daughter’s birthday.

Curious George cake

The outfit I was wearing on Friday is one that I would be consider to be a staple in my wardrobe. I would go as far as to call it my “momiform”: uniform for moms- boyfriend jeans, sweater layered over a white oxford shirt, flats and my pink trench coat. I accessorized with a Michael Kors gold watch and a cobalt studded cuff bracelet. Since it’s supposed to finally be Spring here this week, you will be seeing a lot more flats, maybe even wedges and my boyfriend jeans. HOORAY!!!!! I define this as my “momiform” because it’s comfortable yet fashionable. I’m not wearing my Lululemon’s out of the house, but I am still just as comfortable as if I did. By the way did you hear some of Lululemon’s black yoga pants are see-through? Click here for the article. Another reason, ladies to not leave the house in yoga pants, unless you are actually going to workout or to yoga. Anyways, I digress. Here is what I wore Friday.

Highschool

In the most recent edition of In Style magazine I read an article that asked celebrities: “How would your high school teachers describe your younger self?” My immediate response was “talkative”. By the way so was Reese Witherspoon’s response, just a little FYI!!! They had to separate me from my friends all the time. I’m expecting the same thing from my son. He is like his mother, a social butterfly. In my grade 12 yearbook a friend compiled all of our grad pictures and added what we would most likely end up being/doing. This is what ended up in the year book:

IMG_2500

I was watching CSI Las Vegas on Wednesday and they had an episode on about a killing at one of CSI’s highschool reunion. The poor guy was dreading it, because he wasn’t one of the “popular kids” in highschool. For some it was their glory days, for others it was a memory they wish they could forget. So how was your highschool years? I actually didn’t mind highschool. Most of the mean girls had left by then and we were all pretty much left alone. It was great. Would I describe it as the best days of my life? No, it wasn’t. It was certainly better than most and I was thankful that my juniorhigh years were far behind me.

At a playdate recently, we were discussing school and how everyone places so much importance on it. LIke how well you do in highschool, depicts your future. The truth is that it doesn’t. Honestly highschool has nothing to do with who I am now. Getting good grades doesn’t mean anything 20 years down the road if you haven’t done anything with your life. We get so involved in highschool and feel like it’s the be-all end-all, when in reality it’s a small part of our lives. I think back to the person I was in highschool and I’m not the same person. I don’t let who I was back then define who I am now. That’s the advice one of the CSI character’s gave to the other: “you have to let go of back then and move on”. It’s hard to do. I know for me juniorhigh was awful. I was teased, bullied and made fun of on a regular basis, but I don’t let that define me now. Sure I still carry some of those insecurities with me, but I’m not that person and I’m not 14 years old anymore. Thank God I’m not. At 14, I had braces, the big “Sally Jessy Raphael” glasses, long brown scraggily hair and huge teased bangs!!! Don’t make fun, because I know that most of us have one of those pictures lying around !!! Thank God those days are long gone. Sometimes I still feel like that insecure 14 year old girl I used to be and then I remind myself that I am no longer that young, girl; that I have the power.

So how would you describe highschool? Is it something you wish to forget or to relive?

May this blog inspire you to make your own momiform or to recreate my look.

Don’t forget about my link up this Thursday March 28. Click here for details.

I would really appreciate it if you followed me on Bloglovin and liked me on Facebook.

Happy Monday Everyone!!!

A Little Glimpse Of Spring

We had a busy weekend!!! Saturday our son was a social butterfly. We went from his dance class to his preschool friend’s birthday. I made cupcakes for the birthday party. Chocolate cupcakes with swiss meringue buttercream icing, topped with a butterfly and flowers. They were a huge hit!!!

Butterfly Cupcakes

Butterfly Cupcakes

On Sunday I worked. Not the best idea, considering I lost one hour of precious, beloved sleep. To make matters worse, they got my coffee order wrong at Starbucks. Not the best start to an already challenging morning.

On Friday we finally got a glimpse of Spring, so I decided to take a picture of my outfit for Monday on Friday, since I wasn’t sure what the weather would be like today. I made the right decision, since it’s back to rain!!! :( I also decided to take the pictures outside on my deck. I take my pictures by myself with a simple digital camera. Once this camera goes, I would love to invest in a better one. Anyways this is what I am wearing today: stripe sweater, ballet flats and my burgundy jeans. I felt a little self-conscious taking these pictures outside as my neighbours were outside doing some gardening. Do you guys ever feel self-conscious taking pictures for your blog?
