Embellished Sweatshirt, Leather Leggings & Gift Ideas For The Lady In Your Life

When I saw this sweatshirt on J Crew’s site, I immediately fell in love with it. Jewelled necklines have been huge this Fall and Winter and I was waiting for just the right one. This sweatshirt did not disappoint!!! I was excited to wear it this past weekend, I even wore it to take my son to see Santa :).The jewelled neckline takes this sweatshirt up a notch. I like that you can wear it with something as simple as leggings, or jeans or you can wear it with a shirk or my favourite leather leggings.

Christmas shopping can be extremely stressful especially when shopping for someone that has everything. I thought it would be nice to compile a list of Christmas gifts that most women would appreciate. It’s got everything from candles, to sweaters, to make up, to coffee, to music, to jewelry and even a purse. For me Christmas isn’t about receiving gifts, it’s about giving them. It’s also about putting thought into the gifts I buy. I know that it can get overwhelming and daunting trying to find that “perfect” gift, but if you take the time to think about who you are shopping for and what they like, it isn’t so bad. The person receiving it will really appreciate it :).

Xmas Gifts: Vodka Infused Lemonade

1. J Crew beaded sweater: $116. This sweater would make any woman happy. It’s warm and versatile and would make any outfit pop with the jewelled neckline.

2. Bath & Body Works Mini Candles: 3 for $10. Scented candles make the perfect gift for any woman. We all like candles and these Christmas scents are a perfect complement to the holidays.

3. Stella & Dot Red Cross Body Bag: $104. This fabulous cherry coloured purse also doubles as a clutch. Who doesn’t like a multi tasking gift!!!!!!

4. Banana Republic Fair Isle Sweater: $110. Ok I’m a bit biased, since I have this sweater, but in all honesty it’s the perfect holiday gift. I love the sparkle in it and the fact that it’s Holiday related.

5. Sephora Eye and Lip Palette: $19. This makes the perfect gift for any woman in your life that wears make up. It’s a great palette that has eyeshadows and lip glosses. It’s in a small bejewelled case that makes it convenient for when you travel.

6. Kelly Clarkson’s Christmas CD, Wrapped In Red: $7 (ITunes). I recently bought this cd while I was standing in line at Starbucks (genius of Starbucks to have it right at the cashier). I’m a sucker for Christmas cd’s and I’m also a huge fan of Kelly’s. This cd did not disappoint. Kelly’s rendition of some classic Christmas carols are amazing and I love some new songs she also has on the cd. This cd makes the perfect gift for any Christmas cd lover.

7. Sephora Lip Gloss Set: $19. This set includes 4 lip glosses that any woman, especially teenager would enjoy. The colours are neutral and would look good on any skin type.

8. Stella & Dot’s Kahlo Bib Statement Necklace: $238. Although this necklace is a bit pricey it is worth every penny. Again I’m biased because I have it, but it does make the perfect statement necklace. It adds sparkle and shine to your outfit and I love the mixed metals in it. Perfect holiday gift.

9. Sephora Nail Polish: $15. This set of 5 nail polishes is ideal for that woman who loves well manicured and polished nails!!!!! Great price point and would make a great stocking stuffer :).

10. Starbucks Christmas Blend: $18.95 for 1 lbs. This popular blend is only available once a year and would make a great gift for any coffee lover in your life.

Stripes & Miscellaneous Friday

It’s Friday and I’m exhausted!!!! Seriously planning a 4 year olds birthday is exhausting, but I’m loving every minute of it. It’s been a busy week and not just because of Aiden’s upcoming bday celebrations.

Thank you to everyone who linked up yesterday. You can still link up until Monday at midnight.

This is what I wore last Friday for a friend’s birthday. You can’t go wrong with classic black and white. I tried my best to keep my blouse straight, but short of taping it to myself, this is the best I could do, plus I was in a hurry to get out of the house.

Jacket (Jacob). Blouse (J Crew). Pants (R W & Co.). Shoes (Aldo). Watch (Michael Kors). Purse (Jacob). Arm Candy (Stella & Dot).

This is what I wore yesterday: a striped tank top, military inspired jacket, skinny jeans and flats. I had a million things to get done while my son was in preschool. I honestly feel like whenever I drop him off at school, it’s a marathon race to try and get everything done. At least I succeeded.

Since this is miscellaneous Friday I thought I would include some interesting things I came across this week.

1. A friend of mine told me about this billboard she saw and thought of me :). This is for all those who wear Lululemons EVERYWHERE!!!!

2. I pinned this off of Pinterest. This is the perfect end of the year teacher’s gift. I’ll be recreating this for sure for my son’s teachers. So easy and now Starbucks sells the Grande reusable cups. Perfect teacher’s gift.

3. A friend of mine sent this to me. It’s beautifully written and very timely.

4. We have started a new family night time tradition, pillow fights. My son goes crazy for it. We literally destroy my nicely made bed, but the fun we all have is totally worth it. When was the last time you had a pillow fight? Try it. It will make you feel so much better. Seeing the smile on my son’s face and the giggles makes it so much fun. He loves hitting us with the pillows.

5. I noticed the other day that my favorite pair of stud earrings were quite dirty. I googled how to clean them and found the perfect way. Take Hydrogen Peroxide and put it into a small clean bowl. Add your earrings and let them soak for 10-15 mins. Remove the earrings from the bowl and take a toothpick and pick out all the dirt. You will be amazed at the results. My earrings look brand new, they are so clean. I love that you don’t use any harsh chemicals, it’s quick and almost everyone has Hydrogen Peroxide in their home.

I will be busy getting ready for my son’s family birthday dinner on Sunday. The in-laws arrive on Saturday. I’ll be a busy bee.

May this blog inspire you to not wear Lululemon pants out this weekend, to have a pillow fight and to clean your jewelry using Hydrogen Peroxide.

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!!

The Perfect Casual Outfit & Finding Your Identity

How was your weekend? I spent mine working, but the boys had fun. My son had yet another birthday party to go to on Saturday. Since I only have a boy, I am at a loss for what to buy a 4 yr old little girl. Since our kids have more than they need, I tend to buy books as birthday gifts. There is not better gift than the gift of reading, in my opinion :). The ladies at Chapters were super helpful and they recommended: Fancy Nancy Storybook Treasury and Tea Time with Sophia Grace and Rosie (this one was featured on Ellen). So if you need any gift ideas for toddler girls, these books are supposed to be fabulous and very popular, and not your typical princess books.

Screen Shot 2013-04-12 at 12.55.44 PM

Today’s outfit is one that I would describe as the perfect casual outfit. The reason why I say that is because it’s comfortable, trendy, versatile, it’s put together, simple, stylish and effortless looking. For something to be comfortable, it doesn’t mean that you have to be in Lululemon pants. These red crop pants from the Gap, for example, are not only comfortable but extremely versatile. I chose to wear a simple stripe top with it added a jean jacket, accessorized it with a polka dot scarf, cute nude bow ballet flats, this amazingly versatile purse from Banana Republic and added this fabulous turquoise bubble necklace. The jacket and scarf keep me warm and when I take them off, the bubble necklace pops.

IMG_2859

Jean Jacket, Top & Pants (Gap). Shoes (Aldo). Scarf (Jacob). Necklace (Etsy). Purse (Banana Republic).

So moms, as you can see you can still be comfortable and dress stylish and chase after your kids!!!. This outfit is also perfect, because each of these pieces are so versatile and can be worn many different ways with many different outfits.

Finding Your Identity

As I was driving to the Stella & Dot Summer launch party last week I got to thinking about my identity. I remember after having my son, my identity was primarily “Aiden’s Mom”. I was no longer just Agi, Greg’s wife, a daughter, a sister, a nurse, I was now defined as someone’s mother. At first I didn’t even think about it and as the months, and year went by, I didn’t want to just be defined as Aiden’s mother. Don’t get me wrong, being my son’s mother is the best label, identity I can have, but somewhere along the way, I lost who I was. I came into this world as Agnes, not as someone’s mother and I knew that I needed to get that back.

Even though I went back to work, as a casual, working primarily on weekends, I still felt like I had lost who I was. I can only imagine how stay-at-home moms must feel. Sure you love being so and so’s mother, but what about you? It helped me a lot to get out and start meeting other moms. I joined a Mom & Baby hiking group, then I joined a Mom & Baby workout group, then I became involved in the Coquitlam Mom’s & Dad’s Group and I started to slowly get myself back. Before having my son, I was an avid reader. It took me a while before I got back into reading. I am so glad that I joined the group because I am now the organizer of the book club. It’s so nice to get together with other moms and share our stories with one another. They remind me that I am not alone and that most of us feel the same way. I felt like I was getting part of the old me back.

We get so absorbed in looking after our kids, making sure they are ok, that the house is running properly, that the bills are paid, etc that we forget to take care of ourselves. I started doing more things for myself, started to discover who I was, discovered new interests and hobbies. In January of 2011 I decided to take a cake decorating course at Michaels. At first I took it primarily to be able to make and decorate birthday cakes/cupcakes for my son. I soon discovered that I really liked it, started making cakes/cupcakes for friends and now have Agi’s Creations. Last July, I decided to start a blog. By exploring new interests and hobbies, I tapped into parts of me that I didn’t even know existed. I get satisfaction from making creative cakes/cupcakes and by writing my blog. Don’t get me wrong, being Aiden’s mom and watching him grow up has by far given me the most satisfaction. What I’m talking about is giving me satisfaction on a different level. Like I’m not just someone’s mom, I’m me. I’m giving myself back my identity.

I’ve spoken with many moms who struggle with their “new” identity and how to find themselves again. The answer is different for all of us, but what I do know is that by finding things for yourself, you become a better person, wife and mother. Your kids see a different you, they see you excel at other things, besides them. One mom I know is taking classes just for her own knowledge and I find that amazing. It’s not for school or marks, it’s for herself. I know it’s not always easy to find time, but I truly believe that if you really want to do something, you will make the time.

The next time you find yourself down and need a break, head out to a coffee shop and open a paper and see what local classes they have, or join a gym or yoga, or whatever. The point is to do something for yourself!!!! Think about doing something that will make you happy, will re-energize and rejuvenate you. The more you take care of yourself, the better mother, wife, friend and person you will be.

So without further ado, here is the winner of the $300 gift card to Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic. Click here to see if it’s you. Thank you to everyone who entered. Please don’t get discouraged as I’ve got some other great giveaways coming this month and in May.

May this blog inspire you to put together some chic, casual outfits and to do something for yourself. To find things that bring you joy and satisfaction.

Manic Monday & Stocking Stuffers

mondaykillinme

Yesterday was totally a “Manic Monday”!!! I felt like I was being pulled in 100 different directions. I was in such a hurry to post my blog that I didn’t proof read it properly. I did manage to go back and fix a few things. It was a typical day for a busy mom: I took my son to gymnastics, came home put dinner there (roast in slow cooker), baked cupcakes for the inner city school I volunteer at, did laundry, did some administrative things and went to get our Christmas tree. I will post more about that and our visit with Santa tomorrow. So basically I want to apologize if my post yesterday was a bit discombobulated; I was discombobulated!!!! Here’s hoping for a less stressful week, but with Christmas 3 weeks away, I can’t see that happening.

This is what I am wearing today: a cardigan, dress, leggings and boots. Perfect outfit to run around in.

I want to begin this post by congratulating Julia K for winning the $50 gift certificate to Stuck on You. Congrats Julia!!! Thank you to everyone who entered!!! :)

On Saturday, we went out to our first holiday party of the year. Below is what I wore. I’m not really impressed with the lighting in my house, but it was 6pm when I took the pictures.

I’m also not quite sure what I think of my hair. It’s a bit too layered and short, but I think my hair really needed this clean up. I know I’ll like it more in a few weeks once it has a chance to grow.

This is what I am wearing today, simple on-the-go “mom uniform”: cardigan, t-shirt, jeans and boots.

Before you go shopping you need to do some research on the people you are shopping for. Make sure you know:

  • what the person likes
  • their interests
  • what they like to drink (alcholic or not)
  • what they need

I spend more time thinking about what to buy for my people, than I actually do shopping. It makes shopping easier and quicker, because I know exactly what I am getting. Now I do sometimes end up frustrated because what I wanted is gone, discontinued or not what I thought it was, but it helps me to get an idea before hand. For example, we went to a party this past Saturday and I knew that the hostess likes to take baths, so I got her these great bath salts from Bath & Body Works.

Hostess Gift Ideas

  • bath salts/bubble bath
  • candles
  • check out what Body Shop and Bath & Body Works have
  • their favorite magazine
  • a coffee sampler or hot chocolate sampler from Starbucks or Tim Hortons
  • you can bake Christmas cookies (I did that last weekend and they were a hit)
  • if the hostess likes to bake you can put the dry ingredients into a jar, wrap it with a bow and print off your favorite cookie recipe and attach it.
  • I got this from pinterest where you put hot chocolate mix and marshmellows in a jar and then attach a small bottle of Bailey’s to it. Perfect gift.
  • Christmas Ornaments or other Christmas decorations from Pier 1
  • check out Chapters‘ selection of books
  • if they are a scrapbooker or a crafter check out Michaels
  • chocolates from Purdy’s
  • if all else fails a nice bottle of wine

Pink, Testosterone & Christmas CD’s

This is what I am wearing today: pink sweater, purple pants and boots. Perfect outfit for a rainy day. It’s raining like it never wants to end. I’m thankful for Fridays because that means no activities for my son today :)!!! We are headed grocery shopping and then nothing, and I can’t wait. We are lucky enough to have our godsons come over tonight and my son can’t wait. We will be entertaining 3 boys tonight, including Aiden. Should be fun. Pizza and Star Wars!!! What more could a 11 yr, 8 yr and 3.5 yr old want?

IMG_0999

Pants ( R W & Co.). Sweater, Necklace & Earrings ( J Crew). Boots (Browns). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelets (Stella & Dot).

Growing up we listened to Christmas music from the beginning of December until New Years. I loved it. I grew up in a Hungarian household filled with Christmas Carols both in English and in Hungarian. I’ve continued this tradition since moving out. I’ve accumulated quite the eclectic collection. Below are some of my favorite Christmas CD’s.

1. Sing With Me This Christmas- I purchased this cd for my son’s first Christmas. He was only 7 months old then, but I couldn’t resist buying it at Costco. It is a Christmas cd, sung by kids, for kids, of traditional Christmas carols. It also came with a colourful book including the words to each and every song. At 3.5 yrs old, my son absolutely loves this cd. If you can find it at Costco your kids will love it.

2. Bebe Winans: My Christmas Prayer. This cd was featured on Oprah many years ago and it is amazing. The song title, My Christmas Prayer, brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It talks about peace and love and that’s all I wish for everyone. It is a beautiful cd and would make a great stocking stuffer or gift for yourself.

3. Santa Baby. I bought this cd a few years ago at Starbucks and I love it. It’s not your traditional Christmas cd and that’s why I like it. It features artists like Sarah Mclachlan, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. If you want something different this holiday this will make the perfect addition to your collection.

4. Sarah McLachlan’s Wintersong. I’ve been a fan of hers for many years and when this cd came out a few years ago, I was so excited. It’s a beautiful cd with traditional and new Christmas music.

5. Josh Groban’s Noel. I’m still amazed that such a powerful sound can come out of Josh Groban. This is a traditional Christmas cd that will leave you with goose bumps.

6. Faith Hill’s Joy To The World. I’m not a big fan of country but I love Faith Hill. This is a beautiful Christmas cd. Her voice is amazing and her last song, A Baby Changes Everything, makes me emotional, thinking of my beautiful son.

7. Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas. I have been a fan of his for over a decade. He had me when I heard his song Vivo Per Lei. It’s not as famous as Time to Say Goodbye, but when I heard it for the first time, I was mesmerized. Andrea Bocelli sure knows how to romance a woman. Anyways back to his Christmas cd, it’s phenomenal!!! My favorite is his duet with the Muppets. I can’t help but smile when I hear the Muppets.

8. Boney M’s The 20 Greatest Christmas Songs. I grew up listening to this cd, well actually it was a record back then :). I was so happy when I found it on a cd. In Grade 5, we did a dance number to Mary’s Boy Child for our Christmas concert, and I was Mary. Then we all rocked out to Feliz Navidad. That was a long time ago. Enjoy, it’s a great cd :).

One of my favorite Christmas songs of all time is: All I want For Christmas. My favorite version, and don’t tell Mariah, is from the movie Love Actually. The soundtrack to Love Actually is also amazing!!! Check it out.

You can find all these cd’s at iTunes. I hope you get a chance to listen to some of these songs. They put a smile on my face, warm my heart and give me hope that some day we will all have peace at Christmas.

Happy Friday and Weekend Everyone!!! :)
