Easter Preparations & Bow Flats

I want to thank everyone who participated in the link up yesterday!!! I am hoping to do 2 link-ups each month. One on the second Thursday of the month and one on the last Thursday of the month. The next one will be on Thursday April 11. The theme is show me your favorite Spring trend. I’ll post reminders leading up to it.

My son and I had a blast on Thursday. Grandma sent Aiden some money so we headed to the mall to pick out a couple of books, then we had his favorite treat and went home and decorated and baked for Easter. Easter is so early this year that I haven’t fully wrapped my head around the fact that tomorrow is already Good Friday. Below are pictures of us getting ready for Easter.

If you guessed Easter cupcakes, you’re right. I’ll post pictures on Monday. My son is going to help me decorate. We are taking them to brunch today and to Easter dinner on Sunday.

We are headed to the 2/4 Easter egg hunts today. We are having brunch at a friend’s place beforehand. Aiden is soooo excited, gotta say so am I!!! :)

This is what I am wearing: a printed red top, skinny jeans and my favorite nude bow flats.

Link Up, Listening to Rihanna/Nickelback & Joie De Vivre

As I’m writing this post I’m listening to Nickelback’s song “Burn It To The Ground” and Rihanna’s newest song “Unapologetic”; 2 absolutely opposing songs. Does it make sense? No, but I’m in the mood to listen to both of these songs. I’m weird that way. Do you ever get it moods where you crave opposing songs?

We had a blast yesterday at our Easter playdate. Aiden is going to party like a rockstar, literally when he gets older. Oh boy, we are in trouble and I love it :)!!! Life is much too short not to enjoy it. I just hope he always has this “joie to vivre” (joy for life). He definitely gets his enthusiasm from both my husband and I. The kid just about exploded when our friend said it was time for the Easter egg hunt. Below are pictures of him during the hunt.

This last one is my favorite. He is posing for the camera, just like I do for my blog posts. Love it!!!!

This is what I am wearing today: a pink Tippi sweater, perfect for Easter, my boyfriend jeans, a blazer and my bow flats. My son and I are headed to the Mall to pick out a gift from grandma, then head to the park and if time permits a coffee/hot chocolate. Once a week we have a coffee/hot chocolate date just the two of us. I love it. The sun is shinning and it finally looks like Spring has arrived!!!!

Blue Stripes, Green & Easter Egg Hunt

Since it’s week #2 of Spring Break, I’m trying to keep both of our sanity by planning lots of activities to keep my son busy. Today we are off to another playdate. This time we are headed to an Easter themed one, complete with an Easter Egg Hunt. It should be a lot of fun. My son doesn’t really get Easter. When I started telling him about the Easter Bunny, he didn’t look too impressed. I’m sure his mind will change once the “Easter Bunny” comes with a basket full of treats!!! :)

This is what I’m wearing today. I got inspired by this pin from the blog Merrick’s Art. ed85f4d6ff60a15a752652fb7d1783c3

I added leggings to my outfit, because it’s still a bit chilly.

Full Moon Madness and Mom’s Night Out

I worked all weekend and to say that it was crazy was an understatement!!!! I could tell that a full moon was coming, but confirmed it yesterday. The full moon is tomorrow. There is definitely truth to the full moon making people crazy. I swear it’s almost always crazy at work, but when it comes to the full moon, things get even busier and crazier. So the next time you feel crazy check and see if the full moon is coming up.

I didn’t have the best start to Monday. My internet was not behaving itself so I spent the better half of my morning on the phone with the Shaw guy. By the way best customer service ever. The guy was patient and spent about 30 mins with me on the phone and then called back to ensure that the internet was running properly. Since that took the better half of my morning, I had to cancel and reschedule our playdate. My son didn’t seem to mind as there was a show about robots on. I, on the other hand, was less than impressed, but it did allow me to catch up on some blogging things.

By the way I’ve got some great giveaways coming up: a fabulous blogger collaboration for a gift card to Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy (open to both US and Canada!!), another fabulous Stella & Dot giveaway and a giveaway from Agi’s Creations (my cake/cupcake business). April is turning out to a be great month for Vodka Infused Lemonade readers!!!!

On Saturday I was recognized by a patient’s friend. She looked at me and said “you look familiar”. I don’t know her and I look quite different in my scrubs. Then as she was walking into the patients room and I out of it, she said “I know, you blog.” I stopped and turned around and said “yes I do” and she told me that she reads my blog and found it through Kinder Cafe. So I guess I’m somewhat famous??? It was weird to be recognized.

This is what I am wearing for a playdate today, the one that got postponed yesterday. I’m wearing a longer black cardigan, t-shirt and crop jeans with flats.

I attempted to take pictures outside but it was way too sunny. It’s either too sunny or not sunny enough to take pictures outside.

Last night I went out with some other moms from my son’s preschool. This was a much needed night out. It’s been crazy busy lately and I needed this break. We had a great time. Milestones has a great deal: 4 for $40. Definitely worth it. This is what I wore.

Momiform and Highschool

Happy Monday Everyone!!! The weekend was crazy. It started off with Friday finishing off a Curious George cake for my friend’s daughter’s 5th birthday, working on this post and running some errands. I worked all weekend (which was a mad house and I got recognized from my blog!!!), and my boys were busy bees. My son had 2 birthday parties on Saturday, so my poor husband had to cart him literally from one to another. Not sure who was more tired by the end of the day!!! :) Here is the cake I made for my friend’s daughter’s birthday.

Curious George cake

The outfit I was wearing on Friday is one that I would be consider to be a staple in my wardrobe. I would go as far as to call it my “momiform”: uniform for moms- boyfriend jeans, sweater layered over a white oxford shirt, flats and my pink trench coat. I accessorized with a Michael Kors gold watch and a cobalt studded cuff bracelet. Since it’s supposed to finally be Spring here this week, you will be seeing a lot more flats, maybe even wedges and my boyfriend jeans. HOORAY!!!!! I define this as my “momiform” because it’s comfortable yet fashionable. I’m not wearing my Lululemon’s out of the house, but I am still just as comfortable as if I did. By the way did you hear some of Lululemon’s black yoga pants are see-through? Click here for the article. Another reason, ladies to not leave the house in yoga pants, unless you are actually going to workout or to yoga. Anyways, I digress. Here is what I wore Friday.

Highschool

In the most recent edition of In Style magazine I read an article that asked celebrities: “How would your high school teachers describe your younger self?” My immediate response was “talkative”. By the way so was Reese Witherspoon’s response, just a little FYI!!! They had to separate me from my friends all the time. I’m expecting the same thing from my son. He is like his mother, a social butterfly. In my grade 12 yearbook a friend compiled all of our grad pictures and added what we would most likely end up being/doing. This is what ended up in the year book:

IMG_2500

I was watching CSI Las Vegas on Wednesday and they had an episode on about a killing at one of CSI’s highschool reunion. The poor guy was dreading it, because he wasn’t one of the “popular kids” in highschool. For some it was their glory days, for others it was a memory they wish they could forget. So how was your highschool years? I actually didn’t mind highschool. Most of the mean girls had left by then and we were all pretty much left alone. It was great. Would I describe it as the best days of my life? No, it wasn’t. It was certainly better than most and I was thankful that my juniorhigh years were far behind me.

At a playdate recently, we were discussing school and how everyone places so much importance on it. LIke how well you do in highschool, depicts your future. The truth is that it doesn’t. Honestly highschool has nothing to do with who I am now. Getting good grades doesn’t mean anything 20 years down the road if you haven’t done anything with your life. We get so involved in highschool and feel like it’s the be-all end-all, when in reality it’s a small part of our lives. I think back to the person I was in highschool and I’m not the same person. I don’t let who I was back then define who I am now. That’s the advice one of the CSI character’s gave to the other: “you have to let go of back then and move on”. It’s hard to do. I know for me juniorhigh was awful. I was teased, bullied and made fun of on a regular basis, but I don’t let that define me now. Sure I still carry some of those insecurities with me, but I’m not that person and I’m not 14 years old anymore. Thank God I’m not. At 14, I had braces, the big “Sally Jessy Raphael” glasses, long brown scraggily hair and huge teased bangs!!! Don’t make fun, because I know that most of us have one of those pictures lying around !!! Thank God those days are long gone. Sometimes I still feel like that insecure 14 year old girl I used to be and then I remind myself that I am no longer that young, girl; that I have the power.

So how would you describe highschool? Is it something you wish to forget or to relive?

May this blog inspire you to make your own momiform or to recreate my look.

1 Black Dress: 4 Different Ways Courtesy of EShakti

I can’t believe this week is almost over!!! Am I the only one who thinks it went by way too fast?? Too bad for me I’ll be working this weekend. Now that I’m back to working on the weekends the week just seem to fly by. Can’t believe Easter is next weekend. I’m a bit behind on the Easter preparations. I feel like I just got over Christmas :)

EShakti sent over this fabulous black dress for me to do a product review on. I was nervous at first because I wasn’t sure the dress would fit, but it did!!! Perfectly!!! Eshakti is an on-line company that custom makes dresses, skirts, tops and cardigans for women sizes 0-36. They customize everything from the type of neckline, to length and style of sleeve to length of skirt/dress. I customized the length to be just above the knee. Their customer service is fabulous and they deliver to both Canada and the US.

This is a classic black dress with a Peter Pan style collar. I love that the skirt is flowy and that it’s cinched at the waist. This dress is extremely versatile and could be worn casual with a jean jacket or for a night out. Here are the 4 ways I styled this black dress.

Night Out

Black Dress

Dress (Eshakti). Shoes (Aldo). Bracelets (Jacob). Clutch (Jacob).

Night Out: I styled this dress quite simple for a night out. I paired it with some black patent shoes, added this fabulous bow belt and added some pearl bracelets and a black clutch. I kept the styling simple as the neckline is a classic Peter Pan style and that in itself is an accessory.

Casual

Casual

Dress (Eshakti). Jean Jacket (Gap). Sandals (Steve Madden). Purse (Coach).

Casual: This look will be perfect once the weather warms up. Add a jean jacket and some fabulous sandals and this look is perfect for running errands to going to the beach. Please don’t look at my un-pedicured toes. They are not Spring/Summer ready yet. Keep the casual look simple.

Warm & Cozy

Warm & Cozy

Dress (Eshakti). Top (Gap). Boots (Nine West). Trench (Jacob).

Warm & Cozy: Although it’s officially Spring, it’s still quite cold here. I thought I would layer a simple white long sleeved cotton top under the dress, add some tights, boots and a pink trench. This is my “winterized” way of wearing this dress.

Conservative/Professional

Conservative/Professional

Dress (Eshakti). Blazer (Jacob). Heels (Aldo). Purse (Coach).

Conservative/Professional: For this look, I decided to add this fabulous black and white stripe blazer and some heels. The blazer makes it office appropriate and then you can take it off for going out in the evening.

Although Eshakti did provide me the dress to do a product review on, the opinions are mine and mine alone. I was not paid to do this post.

May this blog inspire you to get a great flowy black dress and see how many different ways you can style it.

Pink, Cobalt, Stripes and What I Wore To Work Link Up

Before I get to today’s post a little FYI: those of you lower mainland moms, DON’T TAKE YOUR KIDS TO CHAPTERS FOR SPRING BREAK ACTIVITIES!!!! It’s absolute chaos!!! They truly mean’t well and it’s free, but it’s completely unorganized and full of chaos!!! :( Next year they should have a sign up sheet and only those that register should be allowed to attend, because it’s crazy and in the end no one has fun. Ok, well we had a bit of fun and my son got some Lego out of the deal, but it’s not worth your patience or energy.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, today I am linking up with Tara from Mix & Match Fashion for her “What I Work To Work Link Up. It’s always hard for me to post a fabulous outfit because I wear scrubs at work. So today I decided to show what I would normally wear to work and what I wish I could wear to work.

What I normally wear to work

Stripes

Sweater (Old Navy). Jeans (Jacob). Jean Jacket (Gap). Scarf (H & M). Flats (Aldo). Necklace (Joe Fresh). Watch (Guess). Bracelets (Poshlocket, Stella & Dot). Purse (Fossil).

Burgundy, Boyfriend Jeans, A Deer & Lace Link Up

I had lots of great comments regarding yesterday’s post about the banana bread. It did turn out very yummy. If I could, I would send you each a piece :). Our playdate was lots of fun. My son had the time of his little life. He loves playing with his friends. Us, the moms, managed to have brief, uninterrupted snippets of conversations. Oh well, at least the kids had fun. That’s what mom’s nights are for :)!!!!

Last night I was featured in Melissa Carr’s blog (The Thirties Grind) series The “Real” “Real” Housewives of Vancouver. Click here to read the post.

This is what I am wearing today: my burgundy Tippi sweater, my boyfriend jeans, my bow ballet flats and my trench coat. It’s cold and supposed to rain, but I DON’T CARE!!! I’m so tired of not being able to wear Spring clothes!!!! So I’m protesting and wearing my boyfriend jeans anyways. Let’s hope I don’t freeze my ass off today.

Guess what I saw as I stepped outside onto my deck? A deer, just hanging around, waiting for some apples. We have a soft spot for the deers and they just love my son.

Today I am linking up with the fabulous Marion from Marionberry Style for her monthly link up. This month’s theme is lace. Lace is big again for Spring and you can find it in all forms: shirts, skirts, pants, you name it. I don’t have much lace in my closet, but I do have this fabulous black lace skirt. I decided to pair my lace skirt with a color block cardigan and my favorite black and white blouse.

Spring Break and A Windy Day

Today is the second day of Spring Break. Yesterday I was fortunate not to have to make plans and/or figure out what to do with my son, because he still had gymnastics. A few weeks back I feverishly planned some playdates and looked for different activities, see this post, to do with my son. I want to keep both of our sanity, especially mine!!! :) Oh as an aside, as I am writing this (monday), banana, chocolate chip bread is baking in the oven. We have a playdate today at our house, so I thought it would be a nice treat. It smells heavenly. Can’t wait to taste it :)

This is what I am wearing today: a brown jersey blouse, skinny jeans and boots. I love this blouse and how versatile it is. You can wear it casually or dress it up. I took some pictures outside because it was sunny, but windy as heck. I didn’t need a wind machine, that’s for sure. I realized that my hair looks like it’s been teased ala Jersey Shore style!!! Thank you wind :)

1 Sweater, 5 Different Ways

Happy Monday morning everyone. Hope you all recovered from your St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans!!! :) I worked yesterday, so there wasn’t too much of that going on.

Recently I read a article in the April issue of People Style Watch about how to style a simple grey sweater. I thought hey I have a grey sweater and I’m always looking for new ways to style it, why not do a post about it. So here it is: my version of 1 Sweater, 5 Different Ways.

Preppy

Preppy Look

Top (Guess) Sweater (Jacob). Pants (J Crew). Shoes (Aldo). Purse (Olivia & Joy).

Preppy: Pair this simple grey sweater over a collared blouse and add a bright crop pant for a pop of color. Layer on some pearls and stack on some bracelets to accessorize and finish off the outfit with some flats.

Going Out

Going Out

Leather Jacket (Danier Leather). Boyfriend Jeans (Gap). Sweater (Jacob). Necklace (Stella & Dot). Shoes (Aldo). Purse (Mat & Nat).

Going Out: Pair this sweater with a boyfriend jean, add some nude heels and a leather jacket to add some dimension to the outfit. When putting together an outfit to go out adding a statement necklace, leather jacket and heels makes the grey sweater more exciting.

Casual

Casual Look

Jacket & Scarf (Gap). Jeans & Sweater(Jacob). Flats (Aldo). Purse (Fossil).

Casual: I couldn’t decide between which flats I like better with this outfit. Which ones do you guys like? For a casual look add a pastel jean, flats, scarf and jean jacket. Give your casual outfit a pop of color with a bright scarf.

Dressy

Professional Look

Blouse (Guess). Sweater (Jacob). Skirt (J Crew). Heels (Nine West). Purse (Coach). Bracelets (Stella & Dot & Poshlocket). Necklaces (J Crew & My Name Necklace).

Dressy: Layering a grey sweater over a fabulous blouse, pairing it with a graphic print skirt and heels makes this grey sweater office appropriate.

Conservative

Conservative

Jacket & Sweater (Jacob). Blouse (J Crew). Pants (Gap). Heels (Aldo). Purse (Coach).

Conservative: Whenever I think about conservative I think about a blazer. Start with a fabulous blazer and again layering a statement blouse under the sweater makes the sweater stand out. Add a great pant and heels and you’re set to go.

May this blog inspire you to take a look at your sweaters and see the different ways you can style them. Remember it’s all about playing with what you have and a grey sweater doesn’t have to just be a “grey sweater”. It is a blank canvas and can be anything you want it to be. Good luck. Let me know how you like to style your grey sweaters.

Happy Monday Everyone!!!
