Building A Summer Wardrobe: Shoes & Accesories
We are at the end of the first week of voting for Vancouver’s Top Mom Blogger!!!! In case you’ve missed it, I have been nominated for Vancouver’s Top Mom blogger. You can vote once a week for 2 weeks. It runs from Friday May 23 until Friday June 6. All you need to do is click on this link, find Agnes Mayer, Vodka Infused Lemonade and press vote. It’s that simple. Although you can only vote once a week, you can vote for me using different devices, like your IPad, Labtop, phones and any computer you have access to. My point is please vote for me on as many devices as you can. Thank you!!!!!!!!!
I’ve had a lot of fun writing this series on “Building A Summer Wardrobe” an affordable way. It seems like you guys also enjoyed it
Today I will be focusing on shoes (wedges, sandals and runners) and accessories (hats, scarves, jewelry and purses). A Summer outfit is not complete without the right shoe and accessory. Wedges are a great way to dress up shorts and a tank top or add a sandal, hat and crossbody bag to a maxi dress. Sometimes people forget when planning their outfits that a simple hat or purse or jewelry can complete an outfit. Try a metallic sandal or one with a little heel or if you haven’t tried wedges yet, it’s now time. Also cute runners are a perfect with dresses, shorts, pants, skirts, you name it.
* These sandals from Old Navy range in price from $26-$30*
*These sandals from Old Navy range in price from $13-$27*

*These runners from Old Navy range in price from $12-$22*
*These wedges from Old Navy range in price from $25-$32*
*These purses from Old Navy range in price from $25-$30*

Below are 5 different ways I incorporated accessories into my Summer outfits:
May this blog inspire you to incorporate hats, sandals, wedges, flats, running shoes, scarves and purses into your Summer wardrobe. Although all my items were featured from Old Navy & H&M, I was not compensated for this post. I chose these pieces because they are affordable and cute options.

Moms, Let’s Stop The Hate Speech & Negative Behaviour!!!
I wrote a post last October called “Moms vs. Moms: Why can’t we just all play nicely together?!?!?” In it I discuss how women, especially moms are beyond mean to one another; how we take our own insecurities and put them onto another mother. I’m honestly tired of it!!!! I had an incident happen a while ago, where someone I knew totally blew a situation completely out of proportion. The reaction was not appropriate for what had happened. Another friend of mine pointed out that it has nothing to do with me, but all to do with that person. Well can I just say that I’m tired of that!!! We all have shit in our lives, all of us!!!!!! That doesn’t give anyone the right to treat the other person disrespectfully. As women, especially mothers, do we have to take our own insecurities and issues out on another person and treat them like garbage? It’s not the other person’s fault that you feel the way you do about your life. This is a great quote that I try and remember whenever someone is mean or hurtful:
Here’s the thing, the reason why I’m rehashing this topic is that I recently read a blog post: “10 Types of Moms That Suck“. I was enraged after reading this. The person, being a mother herself, should not be perpetuating this kind of childish, spiteful, hateful behaviour!!!!! What are we teaching our children?!?!?!??! That if someone is prettier than you, or smarter than you, or dresses better than you, or is more conscientious about what they feed their kid more than you, or is happier than you, that gives you the right to treat them like shit or write a post like this. THIS IS WHAT’S WRONG WITH WOMEN!!!!!!! Why must we always tear the other person down to make ourselves feel better??? Why??? I’m so sick and tired of it!!! Let’s get one thing straight, the grass is not always greener on the other side, that what you see on the outside may not be what’s going on in the inside and who cares if that person dresses better than you, or feeds their kids Kale, or chooses to use hand sanitizer? It’s none of your business or your concern!!!!
I recently read a funny saying/cartoon on Facebook that said “If women ran the world, there wouldn’t be wars, we just wouldn’t talk to one another!!” Isn’t that the truth!!!!! What really hurts me regarding this post was when the author wrote this: “The ‘Always Super Chipper and Well Dressed,” Mom. I hate you. No really, I just… hate you. I’m 100% sure you sold your soul to Satan, or maybe Martha Stewart. Nope, don’t even speak to me, I feel more disgusting and unworthy the closer you get. I’m not even sure these Yoga pants are clean, I may have worn them to the gym yesterday, who even knows anymore?” So how are you justified in writing this? How does a person who is well dressed affect you? They made the choice in the morning to get dressed in something other than yoga pants and you made the choice to dress in yoga pants. You both made a choice. They aren’t holding it against you that you chose to wear yoga pants, so please stop holding it against them.
Yes I’m pissed off because I’m sick and tired of women tearing each other down and not supporting one another. You should see the hateful speech I read on a mother’s forum last week regarding Vaccinations. It was awful. I mean down right hurtful and malicious. Honestly women, we need to start getting our heads of out of asses and start standing up for one another instead of tearing each other down.
I didn’t include the name of the author of that blog because I don’t want to out her or start something. The point of me writing this is so that we can stop this hateful speech against one another. What are we teaching our children? We need to be better role models than that!!! Shame on us!!! So let’s stop writing posts about why the other mom is making you feel insecure and let’s start writing posts about supporting one another, even if we don’t practice what the other person does. I have to admit that yes some of her points the other made were valid and funny, but I don’t like the tone in which this article was written.
At the end of the day we are all just trying to do our best. What my best is may not mesh with yours and vice versa. But who cares!!! If we stopped judging one another, we may even learn a thing or two from each other. Being a mother is the hardest job ever, so why are we making it harder?? Let’s band together and help one another. If we see another mom struggling we should support her, instead of standing there judging. None of us are perfect mothers and women, we all could do things a bit better.
May this blog help us to stop judging one another, to stop writing hateful and childish posts and to stop treating other women badly for our insecurities. Let’s start leading our children by example. Let’s teach them that it’s ok to be different and that we support other people and help them. Let’s teach them to perpetuate love, not hate.
What are your thoughts? I would love to hear them.

Remembering Those We Lost…
and Those Who Gave Their Lives For Our Freedom…
Today is Nov 11, Remembrance Day. When I was a child I didn’t understand why we had to wear the poppies and why we had to remember a bunch of old people who fought in a war I wasn’t alive for. Now as an adult, a mother, a woman who lost a friend in the War in Afghanistan, I now understand. I understand that back in WW1 and WW2, these brave men fought so that I could now be free to write this blog, to work, to vote, to live in a free Country. I understand that now in my lifetime people are still fighting for my freedom, for my son’s and my husband’s freedom. Men and women continue to give their lives so that we can live in a peaceful country.
My friend George Miok was killed in Afghanistan on Dec 30, 2009 when his vehicle drove over an IED. The news was devastating. It reminded me how precious life is and that George sacrificed his life for us. He fought for a better world, for a better Afghanistan. There is not a single day that goes by when I don’t think about him. There is not a single day I don’t think about how his mother is feeling, coping, surviving. There is not a single day I don’t think about his brothers and how they are moving forward. I am grateful to have known George for as long as I did. I am proud of him and proud of who he was.
I end this post with a poem called In Flanders Fields
Please take the time today to thank and remember all those who fought for us and who still continue to fight for our freedoms.
Rest In Peace George. I miss you and your smile. Thank you for everything you did. Love you
Polka Dots and Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up
This is a shift dress that I wore to a girl’s night on Friday. I went straight from work to the party and my co-workers thought I was all dressed up for them. Although I do dress nicely for work, I told them I was going out afterwards. I need to wear this dress more often. I’m hoping to make it transition into Fall and Winter by adding tights, boots, and layering a turtleneck or a boyfriend shirt underneath.
Jacket (Jacob). Dress (J Crew). Shoes (Tory Burch). Necklace (Joe Fresh). Bracelets (Stella & Dot, The Bay). Watch (Michael Kors).
Before I get to the link up I wanted to announce that I am looking for fabulous bloggers to co-host each week for the link up. Back To Normal & Help Support Autism Awareness!!!
We are finally back to normal. Two week Spring Break is over and we survived!!! It actually wasn’t that bad. I think all the planning and scheduling playdates kept us both sane. I have to admit it was nice to just lounge around in the mornings and not have to rush out.
Yesterday was my son’s first day back at preschool. I took the 2.5 hrs break as an opportunity to go grocery shopping, write this post, and do some things around the house.
This is what I wore yesterday: skinny jeans, a white top, blue cardigan and boots. The warm and sunny weather has left us. I thought a hat was in order today, perfect for the overcast weather.
Cardigan (Old Navy). Top (H & M). Jeans (J Brand c/o Aritzia). Boots (Browns). Necklace (Stella & Dot). Bracelets (Stella & Dot). Watch (Michael Kors). Hat (R W & Co.). Purse (Banana Republic).

Remembering Those We Lost and Those Who Serve

Today is the day we remember our fallen soldiers and those who continue to serve our country. On Dec 30, 2009 I lost my friend Sgt. George Miok when his vehicle was hit by an IED in Afghanistan. I received the horrific news late that night and will never forget that moment. I have known George and his family since I was a little girl. My brother and I, along with George and his three brothers grew up together in the Hungarian community in Edmonton. I had the privilege of getting to know George through Hungarian Folk Dancing. We found ourselves to be partners many, many times.
George was an amazing person. His smile would light up the room where ever he went. He was funny, smart, athletic and a really good person. I loved dancing with him, because we laughed and had so much fun together. He made dance practices fun. He had a way of always cheering you up and you knew that he always had your back. The picture to the right is of George in 1999 during our dance group trip to Hungary.

This is one of my favorite pictures of George. It sums him up perfectly: always smiling and loving Pilsner!!!
Sadly, one of my last memories of George is at his going away party 10 years ago. I believe he was off to Afghanistan for his first tour. I remember telling him to please come home safely and he promised he would. Thankfully he did come back from that tour.
The George that I knew would not want us to cry, or be sad or to be angry, he would want us to remember him and to celebrate this life. I see it as my son having a guardian angel. I believe he is looking down at us, smiling and taking care of us. I find solace knowing that George is in a better place. Death is always hardest on the living. Where you are, it’s always “Rye Time”
Tushie!!!!
Below is the last picture I have of George taken at my moving to Vancouver party.

I dedicate this blog to all those who sacrificed their lives for me, my family and my country. I would like to end this blog with a famous poem by John McCrae called In Flanders Fields.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- John McCrae

Hats and Halloween Cupcakes
This is what I wore today. I love the detailing on the neckline of this sweater, and of course you can’t go wrong with skinny jeans, booties and this adorable 20′s inspired “Cloche” hat. Today was the perfect day to wear this outfit.
Hat and Sweater (R W & Co.). Jeans (Gap). Booties (Fergalicious).
I’ve had my eye on this style of hat for a long time, and last week I bought it. I love its classic look and the fact that it’s different from other types of hats out there. I’m sure the remake of “The Great Gatsby” had a lot to do with the return of the “Cloche” hat.
Hat (R W & Co.).
Over the past few years, I have become quite a hat person. They are perfect to wear all year around and when you are having a bad hair day, they come in quite handy :). Below are the different hats that I own.
My version of the Paige Boy Hat

The Cloche Hat

My version of the Fisherman/Bucket Hat

The Beanie Hat

The Fedora

Here are some great options.

1. Old Navy 2. Forever 21 3. Aldo
I mentioned in a previous post that I make cupcakes for an inner city school. I started last Fall and had a blast doing it, so I volunteered to do it again this year. Since my health scare, I haven’t been able to do much and had to postpone the September birthdays, until now. I try and do themes every month, and since Halloween is one week away I made Halloween themed chocolate cupcakes. Below are pictures of the cupcakes I made.
It’s a devil’s food chocolate cupcake with swiss meringue buttercream. The tombstone and green hand are made out of chocolate.
This guy is also a chocolate cupcake covered with swiss meringue buttercream, white chocolate skeleton and oreo cookie crumbs.
The two side by side
22 cupcakes, snuggly packed, and ready to be eaten!!!

May this blog inspire you to use hats to accessorize and/or to hide “bad hair days”, to make your own spooky creation this Halloween and to volunteer to help out kids in need.
