I thought I’d be fun to show you some of my favorite outfits I’ve styled with my Daisy Rae Boutique clothes. The best part about owning your own store? Getting to play dress up in all the clothes, of course! It’s like I’m still four years old. Sometimes, I even take naps.

I want to give a big THANK YOU to Agi for letting me take over her blog for the day! I’d love for you to stop my my blog and check out my store :)

Thanks Kacie for guest blogging today :)

Meet Ginny From My Favorite New Outfit

I want to give a big welcome to Ginny from My Favorite New Outfit.

Hi All, I’m Ginny, a mom, wife, teacher, and fashion lover. I blog over at My New Favorite Outfit, a blog primarily focused on fun, affordable fashion. I’m excited to be guest posting for the sweet Agi today!

I started my fun blog back in the fall of 2012 primarily because I was bored with my closet and style. I was in a rut. Each day consisted of me staring at my closet for like 20 minutes, then pulling out my “teacher” uniform, which consisted of black pants, a top and cardigan. Everyday. I was so over it and really wanted to feel good about my style again. Blogging has definitely caused me to look at my wardrobe differently. This top doesn’t HAVE to only go with those pants. (Epiphany!)

I love bright colors and pattern mixing. I feel like blogging has given me more confidence to try new things. I used to think of short as always being casual, but I’ve really discovered it’s pretty easy to dress shorts up by adding accessories and wedges or heels.

I also love getting a deal and tend to shop sales and thrift stores. I always feel better about a purchase when I’ve bought it at a fair price.

I love trend watching and today I thought I’d show you some of my takes on popular trends right now. First up is boyfriend jeans, I love them! Honestly, it feels a little weird not to show off some ankle now. This trend can easily be dressed down with sneaker/sandals and a t-shirt and just as easily dressed up with heels and great jewelry. Here’s how I love to wear it:

The next trend I’m loving is Chevron. It is so fun, you can find maxis, shirts, skirts, dresses. If it’s chevron, it’s cute. Just saying. I have a great coral chevron skirt I pair with a teal cardigan and fun sandals, but I love this option below too. I also love that jean jackets are on trend again!

The third trend I’m loving is white jeans. They are so fun! The can dress up any look and are so great for anytime, really. That “no white before Memorial Day/after Labor Day” rule no longer applies and I’m super glad about that. I like to wear white with bright color, but a black and white combo is so great too. Here’s one of my favorite takes on the white jean trend:

Thanks, Agi for having me today, and to all you lovely readers, I’d love if you’d stop by and say hi to me at My New Favorite Outfit!

Thanks Ginny for guest blogging today :)

Meet Valerie from The Style Files

I’d like to welcome Valerie from Style Files to my blog!!!!

Hi everyone! My name is Valerie, and I blog over at The Style Files. I am in the midst of finding my style so I blog about anything from outfits to workouts to DIY projects and more!

Valerie-The Style Files button

I’m thrilled to guest post for Agi today while she is on vacation! I love reading Agi’s blog…and I personally think she is wonder woman! I don’t know how she balances being a wife, mother, labor & delivery nurse AND being a blogger but she definitely rocks it! (Sidenote: I’m also incredibly jealous of her baking skills. Honestly- have you seen her cupcakes?! AMAZING! I am a total amateur compared to her…maybe I can get Agi to teach me her ways whenever I am in Canada!) I also love her style—I find myself creating similar outfits and pinning items to add to my clothing wish list!

That said, I wanted to focus my guest post on my personal style when it comes to outfits. I am all about remixing items you already have to make fun & exciting outfits without having to buy something new all the time!

One of my favorite purchases has been a cargo jacket I got at Old Navy. I had no idea when I bought it that it would be such a closet staple! But it’s a great layering piece and goes with a ton of items you probably already have in your closet!

So I put together some photos of how I’ve worn my cargo jacket below. Feel free to pin away!

Looking for a cargo jacket of your own? Here are a few options from some of my favorite places to shop:

J. Crew Factory
Target (vest)

Be sure to drop by my blog, The Style Files, and say hello! And thanks again to Agi for letting me guest post! Hope you are having a wonderful vacation!

Thanks Valerie for guest posting!!!!

Birthday Fun & Link Up

Before I get to my birthday celebrations and link up, I just wanted to thank you guys for reading my blog. The past month or so has been quite an adjustment for me and my family. I started working part time, which means that I’m working one 12 hrs day shift and then a night shift. I’ve also picked up some extra shifts so I’ve been trying to juggle everything: blogging, working, packing for our vacation, looking after our son. It’s been quite hectic and a lot of my posts were written in advance. I’m trying to figure out a new routine with working part time again. My husband has also decided to change his employment and work for himself, which means that he will be working from home. So we have had quite a lot of adjustments the last month or so and I want to thank you all for continuing to support this blog. I promise to come back from my holidays refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Friday was my birthday and the boys started spoiling me after I got off my shift on Thursday night. The boys decided to make me home made cupcakes and they turned out fantastic.

Friday night my husband took me out to dinner to my favourite Indian restaurant called Vij’s. If you live in Vancouver, you must go there. The food is absolutely amazing!!! They also have a market next door where you can buy fresh Indian spices. I’ll definitely be checking that out next time I’m in the neighbourhood. I wore this fabulous coral dress from J Crew and accessorized with their fabulous rose beaded necklace. I can’t get enough of this necklace!!!!

The birthday celebrations continued on Saturday with mani/pedi with the girls and then dinner. I wore a black and white peplum top with a red skirt and of course you can’t forget the rose beaded necklace. Thanks ladies for a fabulous night out on Saturday.

Six Words Every Child Should Hear

I recently read a blog about six beautiful, empowering words that every child should hear. They are: I LOVE TO WATCH YOU PLAY!!!! At first I thought it odd that you would have to say that to your child, but then reading further into the blog, I realized how many times we interfere when our kids are playing. How we give them little pointers and hints, instead of just being absorbed in them playing.

I’ve tried to not criticize my son too much when he is trying out something new, instead letting him learn for himself. I do catch myself sometimes at soccer practice or at swimming lessons encouraging him to jump in or use his feet some more, so I’m just as guilty as every one else. My husband and I try to encourage him when he is playing rather then constantly comment on what he is doing. We try to complement him and give him the encouragement he needs.

IMG_4121

I see way too may times at different sporting games, parents yelling at their kids. Instead of watching them play and enjoying those moments, they are caught up in what the kid is doing wrong, instead of enjoying watching them play.

I love just sitting back and watching my son play. The first day of swimming lessons, when they all lined up and off he went, I had tears in my eyes. I realized just how quickly he is growing up. I love watching him learn new skills and overcome obstacles. We teach him to always try his best and if he does that, then that’s all that matters.

We’ve taken the focus off of playing and put it too much into perfecting everything. With kids it should always be about playing and they should know how proud of them we are. They should know that. They should be told that.

IMG_4168

The next time you’re at your child’s soccer game or dance practice, instead of criticizing them, take a step back and watch them play, watch them enjoy themselves and then tell them how much you love to watch them play.

Happy Hump Day Everyone!!! Don’t forget to link up tomorrow for my weekly Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up.

Valley Of The Dolls: Life Imitating Art

valley-of-the-dolls1

I recently read the book “Valley of the Dolls” by Jacqueline Susann for my book club. It was an eye opener. The book takes place and was written in the 60′s. It discusses the lives of 3 women trying to make it in Hollywood. If there was no mention of money, you would never have guessed that this book was written back then. This book reminds of me of something Lauren Weisberger would write.

The story is about 3 women Anne, Neely and Jennifer, who desperately try and fit in, in Hollywood and in the end, end up losing who they are. They compromise who they are to try and fit in and to feel loved. Anne says that she would rather love someone than to be loved. The quote broke my heart. I don’t think that you should ever have one or the other. It should always be about being loved and loving someone. I was once told that I should find a man who loves me more than I love him. It’s disgusting actually and it would never work. My husband and I love each other equally. Loving someone and not being loved, is manipulative and desperate. In the end, Anne ends up suffering for believing in that.

The Valley of the Dolls brings to light the idea that money and fame can’t bring you happiness. It can’t and we see it time and time again. Look at all the famous and rich celebrities and how many of them are truly happy??? Look at Lindsay Lohan, is she happy? Poor Cory Monteith is also another example. He had everything going for him, money, fame, a hit show, a gorgeous girlfriend and it wasn’t enough.

I can see why this book is known as the “all time pop culture classic”. It transcends generations. It discusses themes that are relevant today and will continue to be relevant. It’s definitely a book that I would recommend that everyone reads. Too many of us look to celebrities and think their lives are perfect and that if we only had our 15 mins of fame, we could be happy. The truth is we don’t really know the “real” lives celebrities lead and we don’t know the demons that they fight.

Appearances are deceiving. Instead of focusing of what others have and what celebrities have and do, we should focus on making our lives better, because we all know that money does not buy you happiness.

What are your thoughts?

May this blog inspire you to read “Valley Of The Dolls” and to not idolize the lives of celebrities. At the end of the day they are also human like us. They may make millions, live in enormous houses and drive insanely expensive cars, but at the end of the day, they are just like us and have issues and battle demons just like us “normal folk”.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!!!!

Red & White Stripes and “Are We Brainwashed About What Is Beauty?”

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was a mixture of birthday fun and work and getting ready for our vacation. I really can’t wait for next Friday!!!!

This is what I wanted to wear last Wednesday but the weather had different ideas: a red and white striped skirt, t-shirt and this fabulous beaded rose necklace from J Crew. I’m loving that I can wear my skirts and not freeze my ass off :).

Dustin Hoffman says he was “brainwashed” about beauty standards!!!!

In an interview that Dustin Hoffman did in December, he discussed how his role in the movie Tootsie, opened his eyes to the standards we hold women’s beauty to. He breaks down in the interview stating that he missed out on some amazing women because of the way they looked and because of how society taught him to perceive them.

Thank you Dustin Hoffman for shedding light on the fact that we are VAIN SOCIETY!!!! Everything is based on your looks. You can’t open a magazine without seeing a flawlessly, airbrushed actor/actress or model on the cover. It’s quite disgusting, actually. I’m proud of him for bringing to light the giant elephant in the room, which is that if you’re not attractive, your not worth getting to know.

Look at all the celebrities that have had their faces done and they look horrible!!!! Heidi Montag, famous for the reality show The Hills, had 10 different surgical procedures done at all once and now look at her. You can’t even recognize her and she did it because doctors and Hollywood told her she wasn’t beautiful the way she is. Take a look a pictures of her before and after her surgeries.

Heidi-montag-plastic-surgery-before-and-after-photos-1ooya5s

Heidi-montag-plastic-surgery-before-and-after-photos-1ooya5s

What was wrong with her before??? It’s so screwed up, the idea of what beauty is. She recently stated that she regrets all her surgeries, that when she looks in the mirror, she doesn’t even recognize herself. The kicker is that she doesn’t feel any better about herself after all the work that she had done.

We have become such a shallow society!!! We teach our kids to not love ourselves the way we are, and that we can go get plastic surgery and fix whatever part of our body isn’t “perfect”. Well what or who is perfect???? We forget that celebrities aren’t perfect and that they don’t wake up all dolled up looking perfect. They have trainers, chefs, make up artists and stylists to make them look like a million bucks.

Who decides what is beauty and who is beautiful? I try my best not to pass onto my son my issues. We teach him that he is beautiful exactly the way he is. He doesn’t need to do anything to look more beautiful. It’s time we started taking control away from all the advertisements and magazines and teach our kids that they are beautiful just the way they are.

There are a couple of old sayings: “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and “that beauty is only skin deep.” It’s true completely 100% true. I’ve met some people who are absolutely gorgeous but there’s nothing to them. They are vapid, shallow people. I’ve also met some people who are not conventionally beautifully, not what society would call beautiful, but they have the most beautiful heart and spirit. That’s what matters at the end of the day and that is what I am teaching my son. What’s important to my husband and I is not my son’s looks, but his soul, his heart, his spirit.

Next time you see someone who is not so-called “beautiful”, take a minute and step back and not judge. They may turn out to be the most “beautiful” person you will ever meet. It would be sad to miss out on meeting these amazing people.

Here is the video of Dustin Hoffman discussing his thoughts on this.

May this blog inspire you to “not judge a book by it’s cover”, but to get to know the real beauty of a person.

Must Have Summer Item #4: Shorts

Mom's Must Have Summer Items Series

For the 4th installment of Ada’s and my Mom’s Must Have Summer Items Series, we are featuring shorts. I know that shorts can be a very intimidating item to wear, especially if you are self conscious about your legs. Thankfully shorts of all different lengths are in style. From Bermuda shorts, to short shorts, to mid-length shorts, you can pretty much find any style and length of short you want. I pretty much live in shorts all Summer.

What I like about shorts is that they are versatile and you can wear them anywhere from a playdate/beach, to lunch out with friends to a date night out with your hubby.

Below are different ways I styled shorts.

Running Errands

Bermuda Shorts

Shorts, Jean Jacket & Shirt (Gap). Purse (Coach). Sandals (Steve Madden). Necklace (My Name Necklace).

Playdate

Gap's Stripe Shorts

Shorts & T-Shirt (Gap). Sandals (Aldo). Purse (Coach). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Gigglosophy). Necklace (My Name Necklace).

Playing in the Park

RW & Co. Shorts

Tank Top & Shorts (RW & Co.). Necklace (Stella & Dot). Hat (Aritzia). Bracelet (Henri Lou). Watch (Michael Kors). Purse (J Crew).

Lunch with the girls

White Shorts

Blouse (Gap). Shorts (RW & Co.). Sandals (Aldo). Purse (J Crew). Necklace (Coach). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Stella & Dot).

Date night with hubby :)

Cobalt Blazer

Jacket (RW & Co.). T-Shirt (J Crew). Shorts (Reitmans). Wedges (Aldo). Necklace & Purse (J Crew). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Gigglosophy).

The key is to find a pair of shorts that cut you in the right place. In order to do that you need to try many different pairs and styles on. My favorite shorts are the ones that have a cuff on them. I find them to be the most flattering and cut at the right place.

Here is how Ada styled her shorts.

May this blog inspire you to purchase some fabulous shorts this Summer.

To celebrate my blog’s first birthday, my husband surprised me after work on Sunday by making me vodka infused lemonade. It was fantastic. Too bad my son was sick and we couldn’t enjoy the drinks more. It was a great way to end a 12 hr shift at work. Below are pictures of his concoction.

7×7 Challenge #2

7X7-Challenge

I’m so excited to be participating in Ma Nouvelle Mode‘s 2nd 7×7 challenge. Visit here for the first 7×7 challenge. The idea is to take 7 different outfits using only 7 pieces from your wardrobe. This time shoes are not included in the 7 items. This is exactly what I needed to help me pack for our upcoming vacation. Over the years I’ve gotten better in what to pack, but I still find that I tend to bring way more than I’m actually going to wear. I think my issue is running into the “I have nothing to wear” headache while we are on vacation. I like to have options, just in case I’m not in the mood to wear that outfit. Anyways below are my 7 items.

7x7 Challenge Items

1. Maxi Dress (Gap). 2. Blazer (RW & Co.). 3. Tank Top (Gap). 4. White Tee (J Crew). 5. Patterned Shorts (Gap). 6. Jean Shorts (Reitmans). 7. Striped Skirt (RW & Co.).

I picked these pieces because they are functional, versatile, easy to pack and comfortable.

Here are the 7 different outfits that I created from these 7 pieces. In the end I could have created many more than just 7 outfits.

Outfit #1

Maxi Dress

Dress (Gap). Sandals (Aldo). Hat (Aritzia). Purse (J Crew). Necklace (My Name Necklace). Bracelet (Henri Lou). Watch (Michael Kors).

2. Outfit #2
