Seersucker Blazer 3 Ways: Splurge vs. Save

Vancouver Top 30 Mom Blogger

I’m so excited and honoured to announce that Vodka Infused Lemonade was nominated for Vancouver’s Top 30 Mom blogs!!!!! It’s nice to be recognized and I’m really looking forward to celebrating with my 29 fellow nominees, who are all amazing women. I’ll post more information this upcoming Friday May 23 as to how you can help me become Vancouver’s Top Mom Blogger :) First prize is an amazing getaway for two and to be honest I salivated when I saw that. It’s been 2.5 years since my husband and I had a chance to getaway just the two of us and even that was amidst much stress over my husband finding a new job. So this would be much needed and appreciated. Regardless, I’m very excited and thankful to be nominated. If you would like to take a look at my bio, click here.

I was contacted by Credit Card Insider (an online company designed to help you use your credit card responsibly) to participate in a blogger challenge to write a post on Splurge vs. Save. I am to take an item that I’ve had my eye on, but is quite pricey and find an equivalent. It was perfect timing as I’ve had my eye on this Seersucker blazer from J Crew.

Seersucker Blazer

Blazer (J Crew).

Problem is that it’s $ 218. I have been patiently waiting for it to go on sale. Then this weekend, I was at the Gap and they had this amazing sale on and I found the same blazer on sale for $60. Original price $98. I was so excited and I knew that it was mean’t to be mine!!!!!

Seersucker Blazer

Blazer (Gap).

Should I have splurged or saved? I am very happy that I saved. The jacket fits amazing and I saved a boat load of money. Do you splurge or save on items that you must have?

Since purchasing this fantastic blazer on Saturday, I’ve worn it twice. I love the fit, texture, striped pattern and the fact that it’s neutral, you can wear it with anything. You guys all know my love for blazers, I just can’t seem to get enough. This blazer will not only be extremely versatile in my closet, it’s a timeless piece that I will find myself gravitate towards for many years to come. Below are 3 great ways to wear this cute blazer.

Style it with shorts, blouse and sandals

Here are 2 great options, one a splurge the other save:

May this blog inspire you to check out other options of items you like before you spend a lot of money on it. Sometimes it’s worth spending the extra money, but in this case, I don’t think that the extra $120 would be worth it.

Shorts 5 Ways

I’m so excited for shorts season to finally begin. The weather here has been taunting us. Mother Nature gives us a couple of gorgeous days, and then takes it back and gives us cold and the rain. But ever the optimist, I’m hoping that in a few weeks the warm weather will be here to stay. When I think of Summer, I think of shorts. I think of getting my pasty white legs tanned. I love that shorts come in all shapes, sizes and lengths. Gotta say that I’m kind of liking the short shorts, not the Daisy Duke kind, but the ones that still flatter those of us that are over 30 and are mothers. Below are 5 different ways I styled shorts.

All of these shorts are on sale until May 7 for $15.

I was not sponsored by Old Navy. This is just a great deal and wanted to share it with others.

Shorts are not just for the park anymore. You can dress them up with a blazer and heels or dress them down with a simple white tee and sandals. There are so many different ways you can wear shorts. My favourite way is to add a blazer, t-shirt and wedges. Shorts are so versatile and will make a great addition to your wardrobe. Try getting a printed pair and see all the fabulous outfits you can make.

May this blog inspire you to purchase some shorts this Spring and see all the great outfits you can create.

Transitioning Shorts to Fall & Back To School: How to make it easier for both moms and kids?

A great way to transition your favourite pair of shorts into Fall is to add a sweater and a button top. It’s one of my favourite looks for Fall and Winter. I like this combination because it keeps you warm allowing you to still wear shorts. On Monday I wore my jean shorts with a pink sweater layered over a fitted boyfriend shirt.

Back to school for most of us starts in just over a week and I thought I would share how to make mornings easier for both moms and kids. We all could use a little help. I’ll take anything I can get to make things easier :).

1. Pack lunches the night before. My son is still in preschool, so I don’t have to pack lunches yet, but next year will be a different story. Since I like to pack many different things for my son for snacks when we go out, next year I’m planning on buying a Bento box for my son. A bento box allows you to pack many different foods in small plastic containers that all fit nicely together into one bigger container. It’s good for the environment, makes packing lunches easier and helps decrease the cost of buying those plastic sandwich bags. A great site for ideas for packing lunches is Easy Lunch Boxes. They’ve got tons of different lunch ideas. Below I’ve posted different examples of Bento boxes. Prices range from $16.54-$29.97.

Bento Boxes

Get your kids to help, even if they’re little. Get them used to helping with their own lunches and maybe that will help them eat their lunches at school. If they can pack what they like (within reason), they may be more inclined to eat it. It also makes it easier for you as well, packing it at night, to not be so rushed in the morning.

2. Pack their backpacks the night before. Packing their backpacks the night before will hopefully prevent instances where you are scrambling in the morning to find your child’s book or notebook. Get them to help. It teaches them to be responsible for their own things as well as a bit of organization.

3. Keep each child organized with their own calendar/white board and back pack hook. I saw this on Pinterest a while ago and thought it would be a great idea for those parents who have more than one kid. I know that with even with one kid how busy our Family calendar is.

78c643518863fd45eae8d5cb599afe1e

4. Organize your kids clothes in everyday of the week slots. I saw this on a few different blogs and on Pinterest and the idea is to organize your kids clothes the week before for that following week. Each outfit is placed in according days of the week. It teaches your child the days of the week giving them a bit more autonomy and allowing you the chance to get dressed yourself.

5. Set kids clocks 5 mins ahead and wake them up 10 mins before they need to be up. By setting their alarm clocks 5 mins ahead (don’t tell them), it hopefully ensures that you get out of the house on time. Also waking them up 10 mins before they need to be up hopefully again ensures that you’re out the door on time.

6. Wake up 30-60 mins before the rest of your Family. This gives you a chance to enjoy your cup of coffee before the morning chaos begins. It also gives you a chance to mentally prepare for the day ahead. (I need to do this!!!!!)

7. Get yourself a big Mom’s Calendar. I purchased one just after my son was born and I’ve bought one every year since then. They are fabulous. They are big, allowing lots of room to write in activities, they also come with stickers. I love them and I can’t live without mine. It keeps me organized and keeps my husband informed as to what and when we have appointments and activities. Costco has a few great ones to choose from. Below is what our family calendar for September looks like.

IMG_5202

8. Get your kids to shower/bath the night before. Again anything to make things easier in the morning for everyone.

9. Set out your outfit the night before. I know this sounds anal but it works, that way in the morning you’re not scrambling to find an outfit. You’re also not looking in your closet like I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!!!!!” and your bedroom ends up looking like a tornado went through it.

10. Get your kids to help!!!!!! Even if your kids are little, it’s never too early to start getting them to help. I know that it’s easier when you do it and faster but it’s a great way to get them used to doing things for themselves.

There you have it everyone, my top 10 ways to make back to school easier for both mom and kids.

May this blog inspire you to look at ways you can make mornings easier for you and your family and to find a way to transition your favourite shorts to Fall.

Must Have Summer Item #4: Shorts

Mom's Must Have Summer Items Series

For the 4th installment of Ada’s and my Mom’s Must Have Summer Items Series, we are featuring shorts. I know that shorts can be a very intimidating item to wear, especially if you are self conscious about your legs. Thankfully shorts of all different lengths are in style. From Bermuda shorts, to short shorts, to mid-length shorts, you can pretty much find any style and length of short you want. I pretty much live in shorts all Summer.

What I like about shorts is that they are versatile and you can wear them anywhere from a playdate/beach, to lunch out with friends to a date night out with your hubby.

Below are different ways I styled shorts.

Running Errands

Bermuda Shorts

Shorts, Jean Jacket & Shirt (Gap). Purse (Coach). Sandals (Steve Madden). Necklace (My Name Necklace).

Playdate

Gap's Stripe Shorts

Shorts & T-Shirt (Gap). Sandals (Aldo). Purse (Coach). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Gigglosophy). Necklace (My Name Necklace).

Playing in the Park

RW & Co. Shorts

Tank Top & Shorts (RW & Co.). Necklace (Stella & Dot). Hat (Aritzia). Bracelet (Henri Lou). Watch (Michael Kors). Purse (J Crew).

Lunch with the girls

White Shorts

Blouse (Gap). Shorts (RW & Co.). Sandals (Aldo). Purse (J Crew). Necklace (Coach). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Stella & Dot).

Date night with hubby :)

Cobalt Blazer

Jacket (RW & Co.). T-Shirt (J Crew). Shorts (Reitmans). Wedges (Aldo). Necklace & Purse (J Crew). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Gigglosophy).

The key is to find a pair of shorts that cut you in the right place. In order to do that you need to try many different pairs and styles on. My favorite shorts are the ones that have a cuff on them. I find them to be the most flattering and cut at the right place.

Here is how Ada styled her shorts.

Tonight my husband and I are headed out to my favorite Indian restaurant, Vij’s, to celebrate my Birthday. Looking forward to feasting on some amazing food and getting all gussied up. Saturday I am getting a much needed pedicure with some friends and then celebrating some more with dinner. Too bad I have to work Sunday, oh well, I’m on vacation soon enough.

May this blog inspire you to purchase some fabulous shorts this Summer.

Happy Friday and Weekend Everyone!!!!

Mom’s Must Have Summer Series: White Tee & This & That

I know you guys are getting sick and tired of me saying this, but I’m loving Summer. Aiden and I are having so much fun together playing in the park, going to swim lessons and just having fun :)!!!

This is what I am wearing today: shorts, a white tank, fedora and sandals. Perfect to watching my son play soccer, it’s his first soccer class.

Mom's Must Have Summer Items Series

For our second installment of Ada’s and My Mom’s Must Have Summer Items we are featuring a simple white tee. I know that I pretty much live in mine through out the year. White t-shirts don’t have to be boring. You can dress it up with a statement necklace, blazer, cardigan or scarf. Below are 4 different ways I like to wear my white tee.

1. Playing in the park

IMG_3578

T-Shirt & Shorts (Gap). Sandals (Aldo). Purse (Coach). Bracelet (Gigglosophy). Necklace (My Name Necklace).

2. Running errands

3. Lunch/Dinner with the girls

4. Night out with hubby

IMG_3898

T-Shirt & Boyfriend Jeans (Gap). Jacket (H&M). Heels (Aldo). Purse & Necklace (J Crew). Bracelet (Gigglosophy). Watch (Michael Kors).

You can see that I added different items to make each outfit unique. I think of a white tee like a plain canvas just waiting to be painted on. Next time you’re putting on your white tee, play around with different looks, add a statement necklace, blazer, cardigan or scarf.

Below are 2 different ways Ada from Elegance & Mommyhood styled her simple white tee.

7 x 7 Challenge Link Up

7X7-Challenge

Today I am linking up with Natalia from Ma Nouvelle Mode for her 7 x 7 link up. The idea is to take 7 pieces of clothing and remix them to make 7 different outfits. Shoes count in the 7 items, but accessories don’t. So you can accessorize your little heart out!!!! :)

These are the 7 items I picked: Maxi skirt, Printed Crop Pant, Yellow Tank Top, Simple white Tee, Shorts, Oxford Boyfriend Shirt and Sandals. When deciding what to pick, I tried to choose neutral pieces, versatile ones and trendy pieces for Spring/Summer. All 7 pieces are great for the on-the-go mom, easy to style, and definitely can wear with other items in my closet. I decided to add some spice to these 7 outfits by adding a fedora, a colourful scarf, fabulous jewelry (statement necklaces and arm candy) and by styling each outfit with amazing purses.

One Happy Mama & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Before I get to today’s post, I just want to give a huge shout out to the Italian Kitchen for being so accommodating with my fussy toddler’s appetite. I called to make reservations for Father’s Day for the 3 of us and I asked if they had either french fries or mashed potatoes on the menu? The guy on the phone said they don’t have either on the menu but that it won’t be a problem, since they own more than one restaurant, he said they will just go and get it from one of the other ones. Now that’s customer service!!! I added them on Twitter and thanked them and they immediately responded. Thank you Italian Kitchen for being so accommodating to parent’s with small picky eaters.

This is what I am wearing today: my cobalt blue blazer, shorts, white tee and wedges. I absolutely love this blue blazer and will be wearing it a lot.

I’m Back!!!! Stripes, Summer and Birthday Fun :)

I’M BACK!!!!! All my posts last week were written a few weeks back. I knew that between my blogger conference (will post about it tomorrow), getting ready for my son’s birthday and family in town, I wouldn’t have time to post anything new. I had good intentions of having something new yesterday, but it was so nice on Sunday, that we went and played in the sand instead. Spring is officially here and it brought along Summer as well. We had a gorgeous weekend, perfect weather for Aiden’s birthday.

Before I get to Aiden’s bday pictures, this is what I wore yesterday: cuffed shorts, pink lace top, and my wedges. I was able to finally take out my Spring/Summer clothes from storage!!! I feel like I have a brand new wardrobe.

My son’s 4th Birthday was a complete success. Birthdays in our house are national holidays. We go crazy for everyone!!! :) We make it a family affair, where we invite not only Aiden’s friends but their siblings and their parents. This year we decided that, although our home is a descent size, it’s too much work to have it here, so we rented a hall instead. It was the best thing we could have done. For those moms reading this that live in Vancouver/Lower Mainland, I highly recommend Poirier Rec center. For $140 we got a hall for 2 hrs, got 2 helpers, a bouncy castle and gymnastics equipment, and a kitchen. It was amazing. I have never been to a kids party where the adults could sit and eat in peace while the kids played. It worked out perfectly. They even did crafts with the kids. My husband bought a helium tank with balloons from Costco for $25, inflated them and let the kids run around and play with them. The best $25 ever spent!!!! The kids had so much fun. Aiden partied like a rockstar. The kid could barely keep his eyes open on Sunday. Below are pictures of his Birthday weekend.
