Seersucker Blazer 3 Ways: Splurge vs. Save

Vancouver Top 30 Mom Blogger

I’m so excited and honoured to announce that Vodka Infused Lemonade was nominated for Vancouver’s Top 30 Mom blogs!!!!! It’s nice to be recognized and I’m really looking forward to celebrating with my 29 fellow nominees, who are all amazing women. I’ll post more information this upcoming Friday May 23 as to how you can help me become Vancouver’s Top Mom Blogger :) First prize is an amazing getaway for two and to be honest I salivated when I saw that. It’s been 2.5 years since my husband and I had a chance to getaway just the two of us and even that was amidst much stress over my husband finding a new job. So this would be much needed and appreciated. Regardless, I’m very excited and thankful to be nominated. If you would like to take a look at my bio, click here.

I was contacted by Credit Card Insider (an online company designed to help you use your credit card responsibly) to participate in a blogger challenge to write a post on Splurge vs. Save. I am to take an item that I’ve had my eye on, but is quite pricey and find an equivalent. It was perfect timing as I’ve had my eye on this Seersucker blazer from J Crew.

Blazer (J Crew).

Problem is that it’s $ 218. I have been patiently waiting for it to go on sale. Then this weekend, I was at the Gap and they had this amazing sale on and I found the same blazer on sale for $60. Original price $98. I was so excited and I knew that it was mean’t to be mine!!!!!

Should I have splurged or saved? I am very happy that I saved. The jacket fits amazing and I saved a boat load of money. Do you splurge or save on items that you must have?

Since purchasing this fantastic blazer on Saturday, I’ve worn it twice. I love the fit, texture, striped pattern and the fact that it’s neutral, you can wear it with anything. You guys all know my love for blazers, I just can’t seem to get enough. This blazer will not only be extremely versatile in my closet, it’s a timeless piece that I will find myself gravitate towards for many years to come. Below are 3 great ways to wear this cute blazer.

May this blog inspire you to check out other options of items you like before you spend a lot of money on it. Sometimes it’s worth spending the extra money, but in this case, I don’t think that the extra $120 would be worth it.

Cobalt Pleated Midi Skirt

I purchased this gorgeous cobalt pleated midi skirt last year and haven’t really worn it much. I thought Easter would be the perfect opportunity to wear it again. The picture was not from Easter as I didn’t get around to taking an outfit picture, instead I recreated it a few days ago. Midi skirts are huge for Spring. If you’re wondering what the heck is a midi skirt? It’s a skirt that sits between knee length and floor length. It should sit around your calf. They come in all shapes and sizes. Gotta say I’ve developed a new found love for my midi skirt.

Celebrity Style: Charlize Theron

Prometheus - World Premiere

tyXSnKMeDuul

This weeks celebrity style is the fabulous Charlize Theron. This girl can do no wrong. She always manages to look stylish whether she is wearing jeans and t-shirt or an evening gown. This girl can even rock a shaved head!!! For today’s post I decided to feature 2 of her looks: one casual and one date night look.

Casual

stil_casual_zvezdy_10

You can see that Charlize’s casual go-to look is a skinny pant, heels, t-shirt/tank top finished off with a cardigan or blazer. Below is a great casual look that any of us moms on the go can rock: cardigan, skinny jean, t-shirt and heels or you can switch out the heels for flats.

I love this outfit, totally would wear it on a date night. I love the pink blazer with the leather pants and the colour block heels. Again for a night out this is totally something that we “normal” folk could rock.

1 Black Dress: 4 Different Ways Courtesy of EShakti

I can’t believe this week is almost over!!! Am I the only one who thinks it went by way too fast?? Too bad for me I’ll be working this weekend. Now that I’m back to working on the weekends the week just seem to fly by. Can’t believe Easter is next weekend. I’m a bit behind on the Easter preparations. I feel like I just got over Christmas :)

EShakti sent over this fabulous black dress for me to do a product review on. I was nervous at first because I wasn’t sure the dress would fit, but it did!!! Perfectly!!! Eshakti is an on-line company that custom makes dresses, skirts, tops and cardigans for women sizes 0-36. They customize everything from the type of neckline, to length and style of sleeve to length of skirt/dress. I customized the length to be just above the knee. Their customer service is fabulous and they deliver to both Canada and the US.

This is a classic black dress with a Peter Pan style collar. I love that the skirt is flowy and that it’s cinched at the waist. This dress is extremely versatile and could be worn casual with a jean jacket or for a night out. Here are the 4 ways I styled this black dress.

Night Out

Black Dress

Dress (Eshakti). Shoes (Aldo). Bracelets (Jacob). Clutch (Jacob).

Night Out: I styled this dress quite simple for a night out. I paired it with some black patent shoes, added this fabulous bow belt and added some pearl bracelets and a black clutch. I kept the styling simple as the neckline is a classic Peter Pan style and that in itself is an accessory.

Casual

Casual

Dress (Eshakti). Jean Jacket (Gap). Sandals (Steve Madden). Purse (Coach).

Casual: This look will be perfect once the weather warms up. Add a jean jacket and some fabulous sandals and this look is perfect for running errands to going to the beach. Please don’t look at my un-pedicured toes. They are not Spring/Summer ready yet. Keep the casual look simple.

Warm & Cozy

Warm & Cozy

Dress (Eshakti). Top (Gap). Boots (Nine West). Trench (Jacob).

Warm & Cozy: Although it’s officially Spring, it’s still quite cold here. I thought I would layer a simple white long sleeved cotton top under the dress, add some tights, boots and a pink trench. This is my “winterized” way of wearing this dress.

Conservative/Professional

Conservative/Professional

Dress (Eshakti). Blazer (Jacob). Heels (Aldo). Purse (Coach).

Conservative/Professional: For this look, I decided to add this fabulous black and white stripe blazer and some heels. The blazer makes it office appropriate and then you can take it off for going out in the evening.

Although Eshakti did provide me the dress to do a product review on, the opinions are mine and mine alone. I was not paid to do this post.

May this blog inspire you to get a great flowy black dress and see how many different ways you can style it.

The Symphony and A Preschool Concert

On Saturday after my son’s dance class, we went to the Symphony. It’s specially set up for toddlers, by the VSO (Vancouver Symphony Orchestra). This is our third time going and my son loves it. It’s a great way to introduce children to classical music in a relatively cheap way. They offer 4 shows a year. For more information click on this link. Below is what I wore to the show. I normally don’t buy or wear holiday sweaters, but I couldn’t resist this one. The bow is adorable.

As I mentioned before, my son’s preschool Christmas concert was this past Monday. I was totally prepared to go into the “ugly cry”, but it never happened, I got distracted with Aiden trying to find me. The minute he got on the stage, he yelled out “Mama, I can’t see you!!” and “Mama where are you?”. My husband and I were frantically waving our hands in the air trying to get his attention, but all he could see was the big bright stage lights. He could hear us but he really couldn’t see us, so after each song, there were 4, he would repeat “Mama, I can’t see you!!!”. It was too cute :) He basically stole the show!!! I am so proud of these little people. These 3 and 4 yr old little munchkins stood on stage by themselves, without any fear. How many adults would do that? I loved watching all the kids sing, dance and have fun. I wish I was more like them, able to just be in the moment. Congrats to my son, his teachers and to all those adorable toddlers for putting on an amazing Christmas concert!!! :)

I tried to get a picture of him but he was acting like a monkey, so this is the best I could do. By the way he picked out the tie.

We were asked to bring a snack to share with the rest of the parents and kids after the show. I had some cupcakes leftover so I made some Christmas Trees.

IMG_1128

Last but not least, what I wore to my son’s Christmas concert. I just realized that my outfits in this post have something in common: bows. I couldn’t decide which shoes to wear; I have sequin flats, patent black heels and boots. I decided to go with the boots. Below is a picture of me in the heels.

May this blog inspire you to add a “chic” holiday sweater to your wardrobe and to explore the symphony.

Happy Hump Day Everyone!!!!

Holiday Shoes

This is what I wore yesterday: a pink Gingham shirt, a pink cardigan, black skinny pants (so comfortable!!!) and boots. I know pink overload!!! A few years ago, you would have never caught me wearing anything pink and now I’ve developed quite the liking to it.

This post is going to focus on Holiday Shoes. Shoes are a simple way of incorporating the latest trend into your look. It’s also a subtle way of adding color and sparkle to your outfits. Below are four different stores featuring great must-have holiday footwear. I’ve included boots, flats, and heels in my list.

“Mama’s” Smoothie and Different Ways to Wear a Turtleneck

The name “Mama’s” Smoothie was coined by my husband. About 5 years ago I started making them, in an effort to eat healthier. As the years progressed, my recipe for the smoothie evolved. It started out with blueberries, banana’s and yogurt and turned into quite the variety of both fruits and green leafy vegetables. Yes you read right, green leafy vegetables!!!! :) I took a recipe from Pinterest, modified it and made it my own. I warn you that it doesn’t look like much, but it tastes amazing and is full of nutrition. My 3 yr old son will even drink it. Here is my recipe for “Mama’s” Smoothie.

  • 1 banana
  • 1.5 cups of frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup of frozen fruit: I use whatever I have in the freezer. Frozen cherries, mangoes, mixed berries.
  • 3 heaping spoons of Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp of freshly ground Flaxseed
  • 2 tbsp of Flaxseed Oil
  • 1 tbsp of ground Chia
  • 1 tbsp of Hemp Hearts
  • 1 tsp of ground Cinnamon
  • a handful of Spinach (yes Spinach!!! :))
  • a handful of de-stemmed Kale
  • Fill the jug up with water

Blend on the liquefy setting until desired thickness. I blend it quite well so that way the Kale and Spinach get chopped up nicely.

You can add protein powder and/or some peanut butter.

Like I said before, my son loves it!!! After I drink it, I have more energy from the smoothie then I do from drinking coffee. I’ll post a link here where you can get more information on the health benefits of eating Kale. Just humor me and try it. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Below is a picture of the smoothie.

Since Fall is upon us, my fashion advice for this blog, is to get yourself a turtleneck. It doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg, and I’m pretty sure if you go through your closet, you may even find one hiding in there. Turtlenecks are extremely versatile and very flattering on all body types. Here are some great turtlenecks for varying budgets.

From the Gap:

Cowlneck Sweater- comes in 7 different colors $44.95

Striped Cowlneck Sweater- comes in 3 different colors $49.95

Stick Turtleneck Sweater- comes in 3 different colors $59.95

From J. Crew. J Crew is now available in Canada :).

Merino Turtleneck Sweater- 6 different colors $98.00

Collection Cashmere Turtleneck- 10 different colors $ 230.00. This one is totally a splurge. I’ve always wanted to have a cashmere sweater!!! Someday :)

Below are different ways to wear it.

You can wear it with a skirt and boots for a more professional look. Below are 2 different looks featuring a turtleneck with a skirt.

Turtleneck and Skirt (R W and Co). Tights (Jacob). Boots (Nine West).

Turtleneck (R W and Co). Skirt (Gap). Boots (Browns). Tights (Jacob).

A more casual look is what I wore today. Turtleneck with jeans and boots.

Turtleneck (R W and Co). Jeans (Gap). Boots (Browns). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (The Bay).

Use the turtleneck as a layering piece under a cardigan.

Turtleneck (R W and Co). Cardigan (Jacob). Jeans (Gap). Boots (Fergalicious).

Wear it with cropped pants a jean jacket.

Turtleneck (R W and Co). Jean Jacket and Pants (Gap). Shoes (Aldo).

Wear it with trouser jeans, boyfriend blazer and heels for a date night.

Turtleneck and Blazer (R W and Co). Jeans (Gap). Heels (Aldo).

Pair it with tweed shorts, a leather jacket, tights and boots for a more preppy look.

Turtleneck (R W and Co). Shorts (Gap). Leather Jacket (Danier Leather). Boots (Nine West).

Last look is wear it over top a dress with tights and booties.

Turtleneck (R W and Co.). Dress (Gap). Tights (Jacob). Booties (Fergalicious).

May this blog inspire you to make up your own smoothie and/or brave to make mine, and to purchase a turtleneck and see how many different ways you can wear it.

How’s the closet cleaning going??? :) Will continue part 2 on Tuesday.

Happy Friday Everyone!!! Enjoy your weekend :)
