Chambray Shirt 2 Ways

A chambray top is not just for Winter/Fall. It’s the perfect top to wear as a layer over a tank top or to wear with shorts. The way I look at Chambray, it’s like a neutral piece that goes with pretty much anything in your wardrobe. Try wearing it with a skirt and heels for a night out or with leggings and over a tank top. Below are 2 ways I like to style my chambray shirt:

Style it with a maxi skirt skirt and tank top

As you can see a chambray shirt can be worn alone or use is as a layering piece. It’s extremely versatile and will make a great addition to your wardrobe.

Striped Skirt 5 Ways

I purchased this striped skirt last year and I’m disappointed with how little wear I’ve gotten out of it, so I decided to see all the different outfit combinations I could make out of this skirt. I’m sure that I have more than 5 but it’s a good start. I like this skirt for it’s length, the fact that it’s warm and the obvious, it has stripes!!!!! You can easily dress this skirt up for down depending on the occasion. Add a sequin top and heels to dress it up or wear it with a simple t-shirt and vest with boots. A striped skirt is a great alternative to your normal solid coloured pencil skirt.

transitioning to fall with chambray

This next outfit was inspired by Shannon from Style With Shannon. She appeared on Studio 5 where she discussed how to pull off a casual skirt at any age. My eye caught the outfit with the Chambray shirt used as a cover up and also the one with the maxi skirt. I decided to combine the 2 and make my own version.

I’ve kind of had a love hate relationship with this Chambray top. It needs more structure and I was seriously considering donating it, but after seeing how this outfit turned out, I’ll give it another chance. I love how comfortable this outfit is yet is fashionable.

May this blog inspire you to add a Chambray top to your outfit to help you transition it to Fall.

Burgundy, Chambray, Boyfriend Jeans and Book Review of Freakonomics

I have a busy week ahead of me. We just did a family birthday party for my son yesterday. I’m attending my first blogger conference tomorrow and our son’s birthday party with his friends and his actually birthday is on Saturday. So in light of all that, this post was written last week. I knew I would be too busy after the weekend to get anything written.

Click here to see the winner of the Stella & Dot giveaway. Congrats!!!!

This is what I am wearing today: a chambray top layered under a burgundy sweater, boyfriend jeans and my favorite flats. Perfect outfit to take my son to gymnastics in.

Book Review of Freakonomics

0061234001

We recently read the book Freakonomics for my bookclub. I have to say I would have never picked up this book, had I not been in this bookclub, but I’m glad that I did. The book is written by a journalist and an economist. Rather than it being a dry book, which is what I had envisioned, it was enlightening and funny at times. It definitely makes you rethink the way you think about things, especially the way you absorb what the media says.

I found it to be a quick read and was well laid out. I especially liked the title of the chapters: Chaper 1: What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? Chapter 2: How is the Ku Klux klan like a group of real-estate agents? Chapter 3: Why do drug dealers still live with their moms? Chapter 4: Where have all the criminals gone? Chapter 5: What makes a perfect parent? and Chapter 6: Perfect Parenting, Part 11; or: Would a Roshanda by any other name smell as sweet? You must be thinking what do Sumo wrestlers and teachers have in common? Well according to the authors, cheating is what they have in common. More specifically, cheating to help the greater good. My other favorite chapter is the one about why drug dealers still live at home? I never thought about how they run their businesses and according to this book, they run the drug dealing business like one would run a McDonalds. I won’t go into further details. I’ll let you guys read it for yourselves!!!

The idea of this book isn’t to convince you that the author is right. The point is to get you to change the way you take in information; to question what people say and to not take things at face value. He discusses how when people give you stats, they are exaggerated on purpose to get people’s attention and how stats are always influenced by the person giving it. The message is question what people are saying and make up your own ideas of things.

They bring up some very interesting points such as the real reason the crime rate went down. They attribute it to Roe v. Wade and the fact that abortions became legal in 1973. They suggest that because those children, who otherwise would have been born to poor parents, would most likely become criminals, were now aborted, the number of potential criminals went down. It definitely is a very controversial statement and conclusion. I’m not here to argue whether I agree or not, I’m simply stating what they say. It certainly is something to think about.

I would recommend this book to read as it gives you new insights into what you believed and makes you rethink the way you take in information. Have you read this book? What are your thoughts?

May this blog inspire you to try and see things in a different and perhaps more open way.

Happy Monday Everyone!!!!

Chambray, Stripes & A How-To On Layering Necklaces

This is what I wore yesterday: my chambray top layered under my pink stripe sweater, skinny jeans and boots. I am still recovering from whatever bug I had, so I thought a little layering of necklaces was a perfect way to spice up this outfit and my mood. I was barely well enough to take my son to his music class yesterday.

I’m a big fan of Stella and Dot and last week they posted a tutorial on how to layer necklaces. I shared it on my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/VodkaInfusedLemonade, but I thought I would also do a post about it. Layering is a great way to change up your look. It’s one of my favorite ways to wear jewelry, especially necklaces and bracelets. Here is their You Tube tutorial for layering necklaces.

If you click on this link it will take you to another tutorial from Stella & Dot.

http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_en_us/featured-shops/layering-jewelry.html

Here are 3 different ways I like to layer my necklaces: On the left I’ve styled it with a plain t-shirt and on the right I showed how I actually wore it.

1. Layer pearls

Necklaces (My Name Necklace & J Crew)

2. Layer a short necklace with a longer one

3. Layer costume jewelry with a family heirloom

Necklaces (Stella & Dot, given to be my mother-in-law, was my husband’s grandmother’s)

*Please note that I was not paid by Stella & Dot to post these tutorials. I found them useful and thought I would pass along the information to you, my readers. I will only post things on my blog that I agree with, that reflect my style and that helps maintain the integrity of my blog.*

There are many different ways to layer necklaces. I have a piece that already has many layers to it and you could even add another necklace to it.

May this blog inspire you to try and layer necklaces the next time you get all gussied up. Experiment, see what works and what doesn’t. Have fun with it!!!

Tonight my husband and I have a date night planned!!! Woo Hoo!!!! Stay tuned tomorrow for details on how to get a great deal on dinner and a movie.

Happy Thursday Everyone!!!!

Magic Moments Vodka

Before Christmas I was contacted by M2 Vodka (Magic Moments) to see if I wanted to do a product review of their flavoured vodka. I thought hey why not? Why not making it into a girl’s night? So I did. This past Saturday I hosted a Girl’s Night Vodka Tasting Soiree. A fabulous night was had by all. Here is a picture of me before the girls arrived.

IMG_1929

Magic Moments Vodka is an award winning Canadian company that prides themselves on using “natural flavors, pure long grain rice, and no additives or preservatives”. They also state that their vodka undergoes “the most Gluten-Free vodka distillation process available”. Their flavored vodka is produced in India, but the company is Canadian.

IMG_1926

So the girls arrived ready to taste the different flavors of vodka: Raspberry, Chocolate, Green Apple, Lemon, Orange and Lemongrass & Ginger. Before the taste test, we feasted on amazing appetizers. See pictures below.

IMG_1935

IMG_1931

After we enjoyed the gastronomique feast we did the taste test. I served the vodka cold as directed by the representative of the company. This is what we found:

Favorites:

Chocolate was by far the best tasting and favored by most of us. We liked it because it tasted the most like it’s namesake.

Raspberry was also a favorite because it was smooth.

Orange came in third. It was smooth and it best represented what orange should taste like.

Least Favorites:

Lemongrass-Ginger tasted and reminded us of Halls. We thought it would make for good aromatherapy.

Regular Vodka tasted harsh to some, described as not as smooth as other brands of Vodka.

Green Apple smelled the best but didn’t taste as good as it smelled.

Overall we liked that it is a natural product and a Canadian company. I asked the girls if they would buy this product and here’s what they said:

  • “I would buy it because it’s local, and natural, not necessarily for the taste”.
  • Many would buy the flavored vodka, not the plain one.
  • Many of the women don’t drink vodka so they wouldn’t purchase it because of that reason.
  • Some would buy it to put into flavored martinis.
  • “Wouldn’t buy it just because it’s natural”. They found it to be harsh and not as smooth as other brands of vodka.

Please keep in mind that most of these women told me that they aren’t really vodka drinkers. They prefer Gin, Rum, Coolers and Wine. A lot of them said that if they were vodka drinkers, they would buy M2 Vodka.

My thoughts are that I surprisingly enjoyed the chocolate and orange flavors the best. I normally don’t like either flavors in alcohol, but I did in this brand. Would I buy this brand in the future? Yes I would. I like that’s a Canadian company and that it’s natural. The chocolate would be perfect in a martini and so would the orange one.

*the opinions in this review are mine and of my friends. Believe me, it’s an honest and good representation what we found.

May this blog inspire you to host a girl’s night vodka (or other alcohol) taste test.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!!!!

I love how she layered a Chambray shirt under a green sweater. I don’t have a green one, but I figured blue is close enough. I like this look because it’s simple, elegant and versatile. If the weather was warmer I would layer it under a great blazer. Today is day #9 of my 30 in 30. How’s it going ladies? I’m finding it still easy as the only thing I’ve repeated is the Chambray Shirt. We will see in a few days if I say the same thing :).

Golden Globes Best Dressed

I was pleasantly surprised this year with how well dressed the women were. My list of best dressed was up to 27 at one point. I decided to divide my best dressed into 3 categories: reds, blacks and white/nude. This year the theme was variations of black, white and red. The dresses stunned, the hair was simple and worn down for the most part and the jewelry spoke for itself :). Two women stood out for me as the best dressed: Clare Danes looked phenomenal in this red Versace gown and Jennifer Garner (0ne of my favorite actresses, loved Alias and named our car Sydney :)) dazzled in this red Vivienne Westwood gown.

One of my favorite outfit combinations is a sweater layered over a button top, jeans and boots. It’s the perfect “mom” uniform. I can dress it up with jewelry and a scarf. It’s easy to run after my son in and I like how versatile it is. We are almost finished week #1!!! :) Yeah!!! How did it go? Did you find it challenging? Please feel free to leave any comments or questions you have. I will post a recap of all my outfits tomorrow.

I’m very excited, my husband and I are headed to see Lady Gaga tonight. I’m not the biggest fan but I love her crazy, over-the-top outfits and I heard she puts on an amazing show. Will post pictures next week.

Hope you all are having a relaxing weekend. Please don’t forget to vote here.
