To Mix Prints Or To Not Mix Prints & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

So the title of my post may be a bit confusing, since I love mixing prints. I’m just not sure about mixing these 2 prints. I bought this window pane printed sweater in the Fall and I was looking at the different ways I could style it. I was planning on wearing it with printed pants, but the weather was totally not cooperating, so I opted on wearing them with my skinny jeans. I decided to take a picture and see what you guys think. Would you wear the window pane sweater with these printed pants?

The first few pictures are of how I actually wore the outfit.

Mixing Prints

Jacket (RW & Co.). Jeans (J Brand c/o Aritzia). Blouse & Necklace (J Crew). Sweater (Gap). Shoes (Tory Burch). Purse (Coach).

The next outfit is the one in question. Would you guys mix these 2 prints together?

Tweed, Polka Dots, Stripes & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday

So my uniform for the past few weeks has been layering a blazer over a top, adding a necklace, jeans and flats. The weather can’t seem to make up it’s mind!!! The past few days have been gorgeous, but they are calling for the rain to start up again :(. I’ve said this many, many times, it’s like I’m a broken record, but I love me a blazer. It’s a great way to dress up an outfit and to keep you warm, without having to wear a bulky winter coat. I wore this outfit on Monday.

Lounge Wear Link Up & Going From Knee Boots To Booties: Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Winter To Spring

I’m so excited to be teaming up with Valerie from “The Style Files” for her Lougewear Link Up. As you know, I pride myself in getting dressed everyday and leaving the house in something other then my Lululemon pants!!!! But when I’m at home, it’s a different story. I come home and remove my jeans and put on my comfy, what I like to call, fat pants. Pretty much any day, if you stop by unexpectedly, you will find me in my Lululemon pants, t-shirt and either a cardigan or sweatshirt. So here is a picture of me in all my loungewear glory, complete with my slippers and my hair pinned back.

Winter-Spring: Vodka Infused Lemonade

So this week’s tip on transitioning your wardrobe from Winter to Spring is to changeover your knee high boots for your booties. I know that many of you purchased booties this Winter and a great way to transition your dresses and boyfriend jeans to Spring is to pair them with your booties. It’s still a bit cold to go bare legged so wearing a shift dress and boyfriend jeans with booties will still keep you warm.

Jean Jacket, Jeggings & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

I was so excited last week when it looked as though Spring had arrived, that I decided to take out my jean jacket and flats. The weather still required some layering of a cardigan under the jean jacket and a scarf, but it was starting to give me some hope. Well as I sit and write this post, it’s pouring rain, so no Spring like warm weather. God I hope it’s coming!!!

Fun With The Ladies & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Last Saturday a few of my girlfriends and I headed out for a girl’s night out. It was 3 months in the making, thanks to my shift work. We had an amazing time!!!!! I laughed so hard, my stomach still hurt on Sunday. Cotton candy was a big theme at this restaurant and after a few drinks, I decided to style some of the cotton candy as a hat. Anyways enjoy the pictures. You can see that as the night progressed and more drinks were consumed, my smile got bigger :).

Styling a White Blazer, Statement Necklace & Graphic Tee: Style Swap

When I saw Lulu’s (from Simply Lulu) post, on Tuesday, I knew this would be my outfit this week for Ginny’s (from My New Favorite Outfit) and Jenn’s (fromThe Brandied Pair) Style Swap Link Up. I have everything I need in my closet to recreate Lulu’s outfit: a white blazer, jeans, nude heels, statement necklace and a graphic tee. Gotta say I’m loving their style swap, it’s given me lots of ideas for making outfits of items I already have in my closet. I apologize for the blurry pictures, it was pouring rain, like I’m talking Monsoon, so I had no choice but to take the pictures indoors.

Happy Friday and Weekend Everyone!!!!!!

High Tea, Downton Abbey & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Last Friday night I hosted High Tea with a good friend to celebrate the season finale of Downton Abbey. We made smoke salmon sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, both with the crusts cut off, home made scones with clotted cream, sausage rolls, mini puff pastry hors d’oeuvres, Prosecco and Earl Grey tea. Thank goodness the food and company were both amazing, because gotta say, I love Downton Abbey, but the season finale was a bit anti climactic. Not sure though that I should complain, I don’t think my heart could take another death! Yes I decorated the house for St. Patrick’s day. My son loves the house decorated, I couldn’t resist, plus the Dollar Store has such cute things. I ended up changing out of my dress because I ate way too much. Such good food :)

My son had to be in a picture :)

I AM BEAUTIFUL Link Up

Screen Shot 2014-02-20 at 2.22.50 PM.jpg

In case you missed last Tuesday’s post, click here for details on today’s link up.

If you’re like me, you don’t take compliments easily and graciously. I am not gracious when accepting compliments, especially from my husband and that is something that I am working on. I have a hard time believing what the person is saying is true. I question their motives and wonder if it’s sincere. Yes I know that I have a problem. It stems from being a teenager and being incessantly teased. I understand that now I’m an adult and I shouldn’t let it get to me or affect how I see myself, but I do. It’s something that I am working on very hard to change. I wish I could see myself the way my husband and son do.

After reading this article, When your mother says she’s fat, I’ve made a conscious effort to always thank my son when he compliments me and to never criticize how I look in front of him. To him, I’m his beautiful Mama and in his eyes, I have no flaws. He just sees me as his Mama.

So ladies, repeat after me:

I AM BEAUTIFUL!
I AM BEAUTIFUL!!

I AM BEAUTIFUL!!!

I AM BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I AM BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I AM BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

BECAUSE, GUESS WHAT???? YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!

Many of you wrote such sweet, supportive and kind comments. Many of you also wrote “if I’m brave enough!”. If you have children, and even if you don’t, you have to be brave enough to show the world that beauty is found in all shapes, sizes, colours, ages, wrinkles, grey hair, stretch marks, cellulite and all. Our so called “flaws” are what makes us individuals, unique. If we all looked the same, then this world would be a mighty dull place. One of the women in the video, Photoshopping real women into cover models says: “Once you take away your imperfections, there’s not much left of who you really are!!” So true.

So many women are getting plastic surgery to look like what society is telling us you should look like, instead of embracing our true self. This brings me to a discussion that Deepak Chopra and Oprah were having on her show Super Soul Sunday. He discussed that there is a fundamental difference between self-esteem and self-image. We forget ourselves and we start identifying with our self-image. Deepak describes our real selfas being beneath no one, immune to criticism and is fearless.” What a powerful definition!!!! What empowering words!!!! He says that he teaches this to young children and he is amazed at the twinkle in their eyes, once they make that connection. I only wish someone would have told me this when I was growing up!!!!!

Deepak continues to say “that we shouldn’t confuse self with image. Self-image is what other people think of you. Self is what you think of you.” I, like many others, confuse the way I see myself with how other people see me. I think we all do this to some extent and the sad thing is that we then start believing in what other people are thinking of us. We start to focus on the negatives, instead of believing in ourselves and how we see ourselves; the positives!!!!!

What Deepak Chopra said resounded with me so much and it couldn’t have come at a better time. It is exactly what we need to be teaching our children and we need to start practicing it, so that our children will then do it as well. All we tend to focus on is the negative even though there are positives. For instances when you are getting feedback and they say a bunch of positive things and then they use the word “BUT“, you forget everything they said before it and you only focus on the negative. I love how Deepak describes our self as being “beneath no one, fearless and immune to criticism”. This is something that has hit a strong cord within me and it’s something that I want to start adopting. I no longer want to be held hostage to all the negative thoughts I have. It’s about time we all realized that our self is worth it, that we can do anything, and that we don’t need to listen to the negative chit chat!!!!

This leads me to the purpose of my link up. It’s to show the world how beautiful we really are and that we don’t need to be airbrushed and photoshopped to be beautiful. We are all beautiful just the way we are. We just need to see it and believe it.

So here is my picture without any makeup and my hair not done to motivate and to inspire you to join my link up.

I wanted to thank you all for your support and kind comments regarding Tuesday’s post about being beautiful and how our uniqueness makes us all beautiful. Click here to read the post and to participate in next Tuesday’s link up called “I AM BEAUTIFUL”.

We had a very busy Sunday. We woke up and celebrated Canada’s win in Men’s Hockey. We then headed out for my son’s first Hungarian Scouts Luncheon. We then came home as we had quite the dump of snow and make a snow man, had a huge snow ball fight and made snow angels. We tried to get in as much Winter fun as we could, as I doubt there will be any more snow this year. Below are pictures of our Sunday escapades.

I AM BEAUTIFUL

So you’re probably wondering what the title is all about. Recently I watched this interesting experiment where they took 4 women, got them all dolled up (professional hair and makeup and photos) and then photoshopped the pictures. Their reactions were not only surprising but so refreshing and honest. My favourite part was when one of the women said: ”Once you take away your imperfections, there’s not much left of who you really are!!” So honest and so true. Take a look at this 2.5 mins video.

After watching this video, it got me thinking about how we see ourselves, how we are constantly comparing ourselves to other women, to celebrities and to models in magazines. Why do we do this? Why are we constantly focusing on our flaws, instead of embracing them? Why are so many women choosing to get plastic surgery and morph their appearance until they are almost unrecognizable?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Why can’t we appreciate that those flaws make us unique. What are we teaching our children, our daughters? It needs to stop!!!!!

I recently read this blog post from Daily Life titled, “When your mother says she’s fat“, about a daughter writing to her mom about how her negative image affected her daughter’s image of herself. We don’t realize that our children don’t see our flaws, our wrinkles, our grey hairs, our stretch marks, extra weight, they just see us. My son calls me a princess. He tells me that I’m beautiful. He doesn’t see the flaws that I see. He loves me just the way that I am. After reading this article, I realized how we have been damaging not only our daughters, but also our sons. We’ve shown our daughters to not only not love their bodies, but to try and change it and we have taught our sons not to respect women.

Recently I had a discussion about my son about how beauty is only skin deep. I was trying to teach him that the reason why his friends like him is not because he is cute, it’s because of his beautiful personality, his big heart and his loving demeanour. I explained to him that beauty is not about the way people look, it’s about who they are, what they do and how they treat others. I want my son to grow up realizing that beauty is more then about how a person looks. I want him to see the beauty within someone, like how I see the beauty of his soul, of his being.

So after reading that post and watching that video, I got an idea. I know that I post mainly about fashion, but I also try and emphasize that it’s not about the clothing, it’s about how they make you feel. Do they make you feel pretty about yourself? Do you feel confident when you leave the house, or are you focused on all the things you want to change about yourself?

So next Tuesday March 4, please join me in my link up called “I AM BEAUTIFUL“. The idea is for us women to post pictures of ourselves without make up on or our hair done, to show the world and ourselves that we are beautiful just the way we are. If you are not a blogger and would love to participate, please send me a picture by Friday Feb 28 to vodkainfusedlemonade@gmail.com and I will include it in my post.

To get you guys inspired, here is a picture of me in all my morning glory before heading out the door to yoga. No make up, nothing. My husband tells me that this is how I should always look, no make up. He loves me au-naturel :)
