How To Create An Outfit & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Last week I needed to run to the grocery store and I was just going to put on a maxi dress and head out the door. Then it dawned on me that I could add a denim vest, my heart pendant and my cross-body bag to make my simple maxi dress into an outfit. Have you ever just walked out the door in simple jeans and t-shirt and then saw someone who added a necklace and blazer and thought wow, she sure looks put together??? That’s exactly what I was thinking as I was putting together my outfit. Why head out the door in a simple maxi when I can look and feel more put together??? It took me only a few extra minutes and I felt much better about myself.

Maxi Dress

Dress (Gap). Vest (Old Navy). Necklace (J Crew). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Stella & Dot). Purse (Fossil c/o The Bay).

The key to creating an outfit is to slowly build on it. Start with a blank canvas. In my case it was a simple maxi dress. Next step is to add a cardigan, blazer or a denim vest. The idea is to complete the look. You can also do that with a scarf, once the weather gets cooler. Next add some jewelry. A great statement necklace, bracelets, earrings, watch, hat, you name. The key is to add some subtle touches. Then add some cute shoes, in my case I decided on some sandals. I then completed my look with a cross-body bag. Again the purse can bring the entire outfit together. It may seem daunting but play around with your jewelry, with hats, scarves, purses, shoes. It’s exactly like dress up!!!!!!

The next time you’re putting together an outfit, consider adding some finishing touches like jewelry, hat, scarf, fabulous shoes or cardigan/blazer/denim vest to make an outfit out it.

Birthday Extravaganza, Overcoming Nerves & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

I mentioned earlier this week that we celebrated my son’s birthday this past weekend. Boy was it fun!!! We had a family dinner on Saturday, which was filled with a bit of excitement as we had a Chicken Pox scare. Thankfully it was just a virus and not the Chicken Pox. On Sunday it was my son’s first dance competition. It was a bit challenging to get him to go, since he was very nervous. He said he would rather go to the doctor then go to his performance. We discussed that it is completely normal to be nervous but that you can’t not do something because of that. He had his whole dance team counting on him. Knowing that Gingerale seems to calm his tummy, I made sure to bring some. We got to the competition, got him changed, all while trying to keep things low key. He sipped on his Gingerale and they got busy practicing. Before I knew it, he had a huge smile on his face. We had to go to the bathroom before heading out on stage and while in the bathroom, he thanked me for saving the day. He said that I saved the day with Gingerale and that his tummy isn’t nervous anymore. They danced their little hearts out and ended up winning High Gold, the highest honour. I couldn’t have been prouder of that little man. He realized that he can overcome his fears and I’m so happy. Gotta say I was a little worried that it would back fire on us, but it didn’t. It showed him that he can do anything and that nerves are normal. Once he got into the swing of things, his nerves went away. I am so proud of that little monkey. Below are pictures of our weekend of fun.

Wine, Cupcakes, Jewelry & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Saturday night I had some girlfriend’s over to share some fabulous wine, cupcakes, appetizers and peruse some Stella & Dot jewelry (I’m a huge fan in case you didn’t notice :!!!). I had all the great intentions in the world to take lots of fabulous pictures, but being the hostess, I got busy and I forgot. I did manage to get a picture of some of the fabulous red wines we enjoyed, the cupcakes I made and the outfit I wore.

All 3 red wines are a must. They all cost under $20 and are all fabulous. Hot Flash is a red blend made by women for women. The perfect wine for my girl’s night. Got lots of compliments on it. Wolf Blass Cab/Sauv is one of my favourite red wines and Apothic Red is quickly becoming another favourite.

Meet Janise from Mama In Heels

My Summer Essential Items

Hello! My name is Janise and I am so excited to be guest posting for Agi at Vodka Infused Lemonade! This is such a treat, thanks Agi! You can find out a little bit more about me here.
But for now what you should know is that, in my fashion world for summer…..staple pieces are must haves in my closet!

I have a love and hate relationship with summer. I love summer because I get to go to the beach, go hiking, and vacation at different places. I also get to wear my summer clothes, especially dresses. At the same time, I hate summer. I just cannot stand the heat and the humidity! It just makes me feel tired, groggy, and lazy. I rather curl up with a blanket in the cold than sweating in the heat. To help me combat the heat and stay fashionable at the same time, I rely on the following items.

SummerEssentials

Thanks to my pregnancy drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day became a habit (1). When it comes to sunscreen, I’m a serious devotee to this stuff. I’ve been using SPF since my 20s and now the entire family cannot leave the house with it (6). I know it looks intimidating wearing white skinnies (4) especially when you are a mom. You will be surprised how versatile, stylish and comfortable it is. I love my flip flops (9). They are chic, easy to wear, and comfortable! This baby keeps the rays out of my eyes (5). I love maxi dresses (8). They cover your legs and everything else, yet still look stylish and sexy. I always wear my hat (2) to block the sun whenever I’m out at the park or just taking a stroll. Tank tops (3) keep me cool in the summer. I can dress up by adding accessories or dress down by going solo and still look stylish. Romper is a must for me in the summer. (10) It looks effortless and stylish at the same time. I love my denim shorts (7). I can wear a tank top or a flowy top.
