Birthday Staycation, Valentino & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

This past weekend I celebrated my 35th birthday. To celebrate, my husband planned a mini-staycation for us. It’s been almost 3 years since we’ve had a little getaway just the 2 of us. He surprised me by booking us a hotel at the Fairmont at YVR (Vancouver airport). We went to Seattle for the day to do some shopping and then we spent the next 2 nights at the Fairmont. We spent Saturday in Downtown Vancouver, going to my favourite shops and eating at my favourite restaurants. We skytrained it from our hotel and it was great. No worries about parking.

In Bellingham, we found a cute sandwich shop called Gandolfo’s. They have a store in New York and it’s decorated to celebrate and honour the men and women who protect us everyday. The service was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything is home made and they have an huge selections of sandwiches. Next time we head down to Seattle we will definitely be stopping by :).

I was a bit worried at first about staying at the airport, as in planes are very noisy!!!! I’m here to say that if you ever want a quiet hotel, stay at the airport. It is sooooo sound proof that I didn’t hear anything. I only could hear our adjacent neighbours leave and that’s it. It was so quiet it was unbelievable. Friday night we laid in bed watching a movie and the planes take off. It was surreal!! I really felt like we were on vacation.

We enjoyed ourselves so much at the Fairmont YVR that we are thinking of making this into a yearly thing. It was so relaxing and much needed!!!

Skytrain

Like I said earlier, on Saturday we took the Skytrain from the airport to Downtown Vancouver. It was a lot of fun to ride it and we felt like tourists. One of our first stops was to Holt Renfrew. I’ve been talking about these heels forever and my husband humoured me and accompanied me while I tried them on. They are not in this Mama’s budget, yet!!! This is something that I would and will have to save for. I tried on 2 pairs: a black patent one and a nude/pink studded one. They were both absolutely stunning! I had a hard time leaving the nude/pink one behind, but once I’ve saved for it, it’s going to make buying them and wearing them all the more better!!!!!

Aren’t they absolutely stunning?!?!?!?!?!? Even my husband agreed that they are gorgeous :). Now to win the lottery!!!!!!!

Our next stop was lunch. We decided to go to Reflections, since I’ve now been there twice and my husband hasn’t been. The food was delicious as always and my husband loved the food.

Our next stop was to get me some birthday cupcakes and then we headed to my favourite bakery, Thierry’s for coffee. Funny thing happened once we got to the bakery, we couldn’t resist sharing dessert. Funny how that happens!!! :)

For dinner, we headed to one of my absolute favourite restaurants, Vij’s. It’s an amazing Indian restaurant that leaves you not only full, but wanting to lick off your plate.

Thank you to my amazing husband for this wonderful weekend. It wasn’t really about my birthday, it was about us and having some much needed time for ourselves. I really do hope that we make this into a yearly thing!!!! :)

Birthday Extravaganza, Overcoming Nerves & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

I mentioned earlier this week that we celebrated my son’s birthday this past weekend. Boy was it fun!!! We had a family dinner on Saturday, which was filled with a bit of excitement as we had a Chicken Pox scare. Thankfully it was just a virus and not the Chicken Pox. On Sunday it was my son’s first dance competition. It was a bit challenging to get him to go, since he was very nervous. He said he would rather go to the doctor then go to his performance. We discussed that it is completely normal to be nervous but that you can’t not do something because of that. He had his whole dance team counting on him. Knowing that Gingerale seems to calm his tummy, I made sure to bring some. We got to the competition, got him changed, all while trying to keep things low key. He sipped on his Gingerale and they got busy practicing. Before I knew it, he had a huge smile on his face. We had to go to the bathroom before heading out on stage and while in the bathroom, he thanked me for saving the day. He said that I saved the day with Gingerale and that his tummy isn’t nervous anymore. They danced their little hearts out and ended up winning High Gold, the highest honour. I couldn’t have been prouder of that little man. He realized that he can overcome his fears and I’m so happy. Gotta say I was a little worried that it would back fire on us, but it didn’t. It showed him that he can do anything and that nerves are normal. Once he got into the swing of things, his nerves went away. I am so proud of that little monkey. Below are pictures of our weekend of fun.

Celebrating A Birthday Milestone

This weekend we celebrated my son’s 5th birthday with a family dinner, cake and gifts. Birthdays in our house are like National holidays and are usually a week long celebration. Aiden’s is no different. We will be celebrating with his little friends next weekend. As I sit and write this post, I am overcome with emotion that I am the mother of a 5 year old. How did this happen? How did he get so big, so fast???????? It’s true what they say: “The days are long but the years are quick!!” So completely true, any parent will tell you that.

Before having my son, I imagined what it would feel like to have a child, and I could not have imagined the joy he would bring into my life. His smile lights up my life. His kind words and big heart makes my heart sing and swell with pride. Some days I smile so big that my cheeks hurt and I think my face is going to burst. I could not have imagined how honoured I would feel to be his mother. It is an honour to be his mother, to watch him grow, to learn, to discover, to become this beautiful being. I catch myself looking at him and thank God for blessing me and giving me the privilege of raising him, of giving me the skills to guide him through life.

My husband and I are truly blessed to have this beautiful soul in our lives. I am a better person for having him.

Below are pictures of him through the 5 years:

Celebrating A Special 4th Birthday

Tomorrow is my son’s 4th Birthday!!!! I can’t believe it. I still remember the day I found out we were pregnant. As I looked through the many pictures we took of him through out the years, I can’t believe how big he is. I remember him lying on my bed at the hospital, with tears in my eyes, telling him not to grow up too fast. Look at him now, turn 4. Mama’s big boy!!! :)

I dedicate this post to my son. I thank God every day for blessing me and giving me the honor of being his mom and raising him. My husband and I are the luckiest people in the world to have this beautiful being as our son.

I’ve decided to post some of my favorite pictures of my son from the last 4 years. I am a proud Mama today and every day. Ok, now I have to dry the tears from my eyes. Enjoy :)
